Tainan reports first local dengue fever case of the year

Tainan City has reported this year’s first local case of dengue fever. Health officials and volunteers hit the streets of Rende District on Tuesday, spraying insecticide and collecting samples from residents. Authorities are on high alert due to warming temperatures and rainfall, which create favorable conditions for mosquito breeding. Locals are urged to help prevent the spread of dengue fever by removing standing water and other mosquito breeding sites.

Besides sterilizing the streets, authorities expanded sample collection for residents at dengue fever hotspots, in hopes of curbing viral spread.

We haven’t encountered such a situation in many years. Although we can’t be sure whether this outbreak originated from our borough, we’re taking measures out of an abundance of caution.

For more than three years, dengue fever had virtually disappeared due to sparse rainfall and the pandemic. But amid the easing of COVID restrictions, Tainan has reported six imported cases of dengue and one local case. Officials are on high alert.

With recent conditions hot and humid, the health bureau has seen a sharp rise in mosquito breeding indexes across Tainan, indicating fast growth in mosquito populations and disease vectors. It urges the public to remove mosquito breeding grounds and join the fight against dengue fever.

台南市新增一例登革熱感染病例，也是台南市今年第一例的本土個案。公部門噴藥消毒、也採檢周邊鄰居。由於連日來高溫又降雨，病媒蚊指數增加，衛生局除了動員加強，清除孳生源，也呼籲民眾巡倒刷清，避免病媒蚊的孳生。

衛生局等單位，加上大批志工，在仁德區成功里，噴藥消毒。

除了消毒，也針對熱區附近的民眾，也擴大採檢，就是要及時遏止住登革熱的傳播。

“已經有好多年都沒有這種狀況了，可是這一次的案例，我們也不確定他是不是在我們里內發生的，但為了以防萬一，我們還是小心注意提防。”

三年多來，因為雨水不多又有新冠疫情，登革熱幾乎都沒有發生，不過今年一解封，台南市登革熱的境外移入個案，已經出現了六例，最近又出現本土個案，公部門不得不繃緊神經。

最近天氣濕熱，衛生局也發現，在台南市各區的監測指數，大幅上升，顯示社區內孳生源數量增多，病媒蚊也在快速生長。提醒民眾加強清除孳生源，共同防治登革熱。
