Vegetable prices soar in wake of Typhoon Gaemi

2024-08-08

Vegetable prices are soaring due to flooding from Typhoon Gaemi. The cost of cilantro reached NT$1,033 per kilogram on Wednesday, compared to NT$60 before the storm.

It’s not just cilantro that’s taken a hit. Cabbage is now over NT$100 a head, while green beans are more than NT$400 per kilogram. Meanwhile, a handful of spring onions will set you back NT$200. Officials say it could take another two weeks to get prices under control.
