Time to enjoy the sweet potato harvest in Wanli District

It’s sweet potato season! In the mountains of New Taipei’s Wanli District, it’s time to enjoy the harvest. At a local press event, a master chef shared some creative recipes to showcase sweet potatoes’ versatility. Farmers say, weatherwise, it’s been a great year for the crop. Let’s head to the north coast town to see how this crop is grown.

This hotpot is full of greens, wood-ear mushrooms, enoki mushrooms and chicken breast, as well as the big draw: sweet potatoes from the local mountains of Shuangxing, in Wanli.

This cooking expert has also created a sweet potato egg salad, and sweet potato with tofu as an appetizer. These creative recipes all feature the tuber as the star.

We have the No. 57 and No. 66 mountain sweet potatoes. The No. 57 has a softer inner texture, and No. 66 is a red sweet potato with a silkier texture and more sweetness.

The Shuangxing mountain sweet potatoes are in season every August to September. The village is surrounded on three sides by mountains of altitudes between 350 to 450 meters. The climate is humid, and the soil full of red clay, which makes it claggy and good for irrigation. That’s why this area is great for growing two star varieties of sweet potatoes.

The weather’s been very good this year. We’ve had rain, we’ve had sun. The sweet potatoes in my care have done pretty well this year, I’d say.

Every year during the harvest, Wanli District Office provides promotions in collaboration with local farmers and the village chief of Shuangxing. Gift boxes of specially-selected premium sweet potatoes are on offer online for home delivery, enabling everyone to enjoy these local delicacies on a scorching summer’s day.

雙興地瓜熱銷起跑 萬里區公所聯手瓜農推銷

每年產季只有8月到9月的"萬里雙興高山地瓜"熱銷季正式開跑,萬里區公所特別在大坪國小,舉辦開賣記者會,吸引不少地瓜愛好者共襄盛舉;另外,還邀請到了料理女王蔡季芳,到現場創作多種料理,為雙興高山地瓜揭開序幕。

火鍋裡面,放入滿滿青菜、木耳、金針菇、雞胸肉,還有重頭戲萬里的雙興高山地瓜,令人看了食指大動。

料理達人還做了冰心地瓜蛋沙拉、金薯開胃豆腐等創意料理,全都是靠地瓜扮演要角。

每年8月到9月,是雙星高山地瓜的產季,萬里雙興三面環山、海拔高度350至450公尺,水氣充足,更擁有黏性較高的紅土,和排水良好的地理條件,才能產出地瓜界兩大天王。

每年到了產季,萬里區公所都會與雙興里長整合在地小農,攜手推出質優、精選地瓜禮盒,配合推出線上訂購宅配到家服務,讓大家都能在炎炎夏日,嚐到萬里名產"地瓜"。
