If you’re a fan of Formula 1, this one is for you. Taiwan will host its first-ever F1 showrun this month in Taichung. Race cars will zoom along Shizheng Road from noon to 2 p.m. on Sept. 28, in an event that’s expected to attract 30,000 spectators. To promote the use of public transport to the venue, Mayor Lu Shiow-yen on Monday inaugurated a themed Taichung Metro train car. Let’s hear from her.

Of the 30,000 tickets, about 80% are non-Taichung residents, people from other places in Taiwan, or from overseas. So everyone can take the High Speed Rail over, hop on the Taichung Metro and get off at Shui-an Temple or City Hall Station.
The themed car features a sign with the road’s name on the handrail, and road markings and tire tracks on the floor. Usually F1 showruns are held in the host country’s capital, but not this time around. Taichung says it is working to preserve the quality of the asphalt ahead of the event, which it expects will promote the city on the world stage.
