Stray dog carried in cage by foot down Yushan

For more than a month now, mountaineers have reported spotting a lone stray dog near the summit of Yushan, the tallest peak in Taiwan. Though nobody knows how the dog ended up all the way up there, it is now in safe hands. A porter was hired to bring it down by foot in a cage, weighing a total of 40 kilos. The 8.5 km downhill trek took four hours, and since then, the pup has cleared a health check and will soon be neutered.

Inside the cage is a stray dog, which, together with the cage makes for a load of 40 kg. The 8.5 km walk on a pebble-strewn trail to the entrance of Yushan took a whole four hours.
National park officials had reported that a stray dog had been spotted roaming Yushan. Since the stray posed a threat to natural habitat as well as a risk of spreading rabies, it could not stay. But being too feral, walking it with a leash was out of the question. Hence, the cage.

When our colleagues were ready to go up Yushan, they met the worker hired by the national park authorities. So the stray was carried down by the worker to the entrance of the trail, and then we brought it back for checks. Our in-house vet found that the dog is underweight but otherwise very healthy. It’ll be neutered and won’t be released back to where it was found.
From Paiyun Lodge to the park entrance, the carrier descended from an altitude of 3,402m to 2,610m, setting a record for the highest-altitude pest control mission ever in Chiayi.

海拔三千公尺以上的玉山群峰出現流浪犬，時間長達一個多月，甚至還跑到天文台觀測站，嘉義縣家畜疾病防治所日前接獲玉山國家公園管理處通報後，由背工以人力方式將狗扛下山，籠子加上狗總重達到40公斤，他們歷經4小時，行走8.5公里，才終於抵達玉山登山口。
背工全副武裝，在眾人的協助下，將誘捕籠與犬隻整個背起來。
拿著拐杖保持穩定度，一步一步行走在佈滿碎石子的山路中，背著40公斤重的狗籠與狗，在狹窄的道路行走4小時，總距離8.5公里，他們才終於抵達玉山登山口。
事件發生在嘉義縣，嘉義縣家畜疾病防治所日前接獲玉山國家公園管理處通報，有犬隻出沒在玉山群峰，考量保護野生動物與狂犬病防疫，需要將犬隻帶下山，不過因為狗狗具有攻擊性，無法使用牽繩帶下山，他們只好誘捕後以人力方式扛下山。

“本所同仁整裝待發欲上山的時候，剛好遇到玉管處所聘請的背工，由該背工背到玉山登山口，後續再由本所人員接駁下山，經本所獸醫師檢查，該犬隻身體偏瘦，但是健康狀況非常良好，後續將絕育後不再原放”
從海拔3402公尺的排雲山莊，背到海拔2610的玉山登山口，突破重重難關，終於將狗狗平安帶下山，這也創下嘉畜所最高海拔防疫記錄。
