DPP launches mass-recall campaign after opposition moves to cut budget

2025-01-17

After months of bickering, the 2025 central government budget is finally being scrutinized properly in the legislature. After several days of negotiations over proposed budget cuts, the opposition KMT and TPP, which hold a majority in the legislature, have reduced their proposals from over 3,000 to a few hundred and will put their efforts into completing their review when the session ends on Tuesday.

The DPP has accused the opposition of irrationally cutting the budget in order to paralyze the government. The DPP’s legislative caucus convener Ker Chien-ming has announced that all DPP public officials will participate in a mass recall campaign after February that aims to remove all 41 KMT legislators elected by first-past-the-post.
