Taichung elementary sustains decades of lion dancing excellence

Guangzheng Elementary in Taichung’s Wufeng District offers a course on folk arts. Starting from the lower grades, students learn traditional performances like lion dance and drumming. Although there are only six classes in the entire school, nearly every student knows how to do them. About half are part of the school’s troupe, which receives invites to perform all over.
Lion dancers and drummers spread out on a sports field, putting their all into rehearsal.
Regardless of their young age, they drum with intensity, constructing an imposing scene.
To memorize the rhythm, the students practice on their own all the time.

I use a pen to drum on my desk or on the table. Or just with my hand on the table.
Lion dancers then come onto the field, giving a lifelike performance. The expressions and movements of the lions are all remarkably realistic.

You need to be pretty fit, or at least have good arm strength. You also have to jump high enough.
Although Guangzheng Elementary is a rural school, it places a lot of emphasis on folk arts. The lion dance troupe was founded in 2004. For over 20 years, it has maintained the tradition through generations of students.

In our regular curriculum we incorporate the arts as well as Taichung’s Highlights Project. Of our 144 students, nearly 60 are on the lion dance and drum troupe.

The entire school knows traditional folk arts. They’re very good at dragon and lion dances.
Guangzheng Elementary’s lion dance and drum troupe has been invited to perform in California and at the International Children’s Folklore Festival. Whenever a public construction project needs dancers for a groundbreaking ceremony, they also seek out Guangzheng students, giving them a powerful sense of achievement at a young age.

霧峰光正國小醒獅戰鼓隊 傳承20年光榮傳統

台中市霧峰區的光正國小，學校開設民俗技藝課程，學生從低年級開始，就接觸醒獅、戰鼓民俗課程。全校雖然僅6個班，但幾乎每個學生，都會這項技藝，更有近一半的學生，加入戰鼓醒獅隊，精湛的表演，經常應邀到各地表演。
操場上，醒獅隊和戰鼓隊，賣力的彩排。
別看他們小小年紀，打氣戰鼓，氣勢磅礡。
為了記下這一套鼓譜，學生無時無刻，都會自我練習。

接著，醒獅隊上場，栩栩如生的表演，把獅子的表情、動作，表演的維妙維肖。

光正國小，雖然位處偏鄉，但學校重視民俗技藝，2004年成立戰鼓醒獅隊，成為20多年來，學校的光榮傳統。

光正國小的醒獅戰鼓隊，曾經受邀遠赴美國加州，參加國際童玩節表演，還有很多市政建設開工典禮，都找他們來表演，讓學生很有成就感。
