A parkour practictioner has been slapped with a fine in Taichung, after a video of a stunt he performed was posted online. The traceur, as they are known in the scene, had jumped off the side of a bridge onto a steel beam some distance away. Though police could not fine him for the stunt itself or for stepping on the beam, they did fine him NT$500 for jaywalking. Let’s hear more.

That’s not OK. He should be thinking about public safety. It’s just like street racing.

You’re not allowed to jump from there. Why would he do that? It’s dangerous. Had he missed, he would’ve hurt himself.

Parkour instructor
Extreme stunts actually go against the philosophy of parkour. Parkour is about running freely around the city. When you’re up against an obstacle, you jump over it. It’s not about jumping from buildings, bridges or dams or flying around.
The gap between the bridge and the beam was about 3m, and the drop to the river below is about two stories deep. Locals say that, had the runner missed the beam, he would have most definitely been left with an injury. A parkour expert says the sport’s key tenet is safety, urging practitioners to not put themselves at risk to show off their nerve.
