K-pop fans ask god of marriage to help them get concert tickets

As if Yue Lao, the god of marriage and love isn’t busy enough, he’s now being asked to get concert tickets. Recently, a fan of K-pop group BABYMONSTER asked Yue Lao to help him score two VIP tickets to an upcoming concert. The meticulous fan even included a seating plan complete with the exact times and dates tickets will be available, in front of the altar.

K-pop group BABYMONSTER’s CD and photos are placed on the altar for Yue Lao, the god of marriage and love, along with snacks such as chocolate bars and cream puffs.

Also being offered is a seating plan for the group’s upcoming concert. The worshipper had circled the VIP spots they want and asked for two tickets. They had also written down the exact time and dates for when the ticketing system opens, and when and where the concert will be.

The 130-year-old Taitung Tianhou Temple is said to be one of the best places to seek help from Yue Lao. Traditionally, worshippers ask Yue Lao to lead them to meet the one. But recently, concertgoers are giving the deity an unconventional task: to connect them with their idols.

Traditionally speaking, Yue Lao allows us to connect with the one we’ll marry. No matter how far apart, those who are destined to be together are connected with an invisible thread. Perhaps young people believe this means Yue Lao can also help them score tickets that are meant to be theirs.

BABYMONSTER’s Taiwan concert is slated for the end of June, and tickets will go on sale this Friday. Devoted fans are doing all they can for a chance to meet their “dream girls.”

月老廟通常是求姻緣，現在竟然有人會為了求演唱會門票，去拜月老．日前，有民眾到台東天后宮，月老神壇前，擺滿韓國女團的照片及演唱會座位表，向月老許願，希望能成功搶到演唱會門票！

月老神壇桌上，韓國女團「BABYMONSTER」的CD專輯與照片一字排開，旁邊還有巧克力、小泡芙等甜食供品。

另一側還放著一張座位表，明確圈出自己想搶到的VIP票區，一旁寫著「想搶這裡的位置，兩張」，甚至仔細附上了連續3天的搶票日期，以及開唱時間地點等資訊。

有著130年歷史的台東天后宮，是全台灣最靈驗的月老廟之一。不過，一般人通常會為了求姻緣、牽紅線而來。近日卻有民眾突發奇想，在神壇上擺滿偶像的照片，希望能成功搶到演唱會門票，一圓自己與偶像的緣分。

韓國女團BABYMONSTER，即將在6月底來台舉辦演唱會。門票將在3月28號正式開賣，就怕門票一票難求，粉絲突發奇想，求助月老牽"買票緣分"。

Another Chinese influencer in Taiwan is to be deported by the end of the month. This time its Xiao Wei, who has made comments online in support of China’s military annexation of Taiwan. In 2019, I left Taiwan and returned to the mainland to further my career. And then I came back to Taiwan on Oct. 8, 2024. I looked at my spending history and I spent almost 600,000 renminbi in the mainland. I told my husband, “I failed so badly in the mainland, and I failed doing this too, why do you keep lending me money.” He asked me, “If I stop lending you money, would you still stay in this family?” No-nonsense and says things as they are, I love men like that. You know what I mean?

Xiao Wei was not shy in admitting the transactional nature of her marriage with her husband. She says she used him for his money, to springboard her career, improve her status and turn her life around. Observers have criticized her attitude, saying that she had long shown her true face, using her husband as a mere tool. But Xiao Wei is facing the same fate as Chinese influencer Yaya, who was recently deported. Xiao Wei’s family visa for Taiwan has been revoked by the National Immigration agency, and she’ll have to leave Taiwan before March 31. A KMT lawmaker has spoken in defense of the two influencers, who had called for Taiwan’s military annexation by China.

It’s scary, it’s as if there were no more room for freedom of speech in Taiwan. And it’s not just Chinese spouses in Taiwan who don’t have freedom of speech. Even lawmakers don’t have it. If you say anything that the DPP doesn’t like, they’ll recall you. They won’t even let you work as a lawmaker.

Calling for Taiwan’s military annexation is not covered under freedom of speech. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights prohibits any propaganda for war. So I think if Yeh Chih-yuan continues blindly supporting pro-China influencers like Yaya, voters in Banqiao will let him know what they think.

Critics say that, faced with China’s pervasive united front tactics, Taiwan must be careful to defend its sovereignty and hard-earned democracy and freedom.

AI Expo Taiwan 2025 kicks off in Taipei

AI Expo Taiwan kicked off Wednesday, at the Taipei Expo Park. The three-day trade show is attended by more than 250 companies in the industry and many others. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim was at the opening ceremony, where she was introduced to the highlights. Let’s take a look.

Retired professional baseball players form team for World Masters Games

Retired baseball player and founder of the Basegarden grassroots baseball organization Chou Szu-chi has put together a team of former professional baseball players to compete in the upcoming World Masters Games. They held a press conference recently to announce the logo, uniform, and players on their team, the Goat Bros. Their goal is to win the gold medal at the Games and continue to promote baseball in Taiwan.

Holding banners and shouting slogans, 120 young baseball players join Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an at Taipei Dome to commemorate the new baseball team, the Goat Bros.

Team captain Chou Szu-chi, who found the Basegarden grassroots baseball organization, has recruited other former professional baseball players, including Chen Kuan-jen, Kao Kuo-hui, and Wu Chun-yi, to join the team. They will compete at the upcoming World Masters Games in Taipei and New Taipei City.

Elementary figure skating team competes abroad

Mingdao Elementary School in Taipei has a figure skating team. From 2016 to 2019, they represented Taiwan at the World Championships, and in the 2018 Asian Championships, they got second place in the four-person division. But at the start, the school just wanted the students to have a safe place to go after class and to release some pent-up energy.

Each lift of the hand and leg is in unison, perfectly timed with the music as they change formation. This is the figure skating team at Mingdao Elementary School in Taipei. They might be young, but they have a surprising power that arrests attention.

Seeking a high score in competition by making no mistakes, they practice hard every weekday. The team members gather after school to train. They’re not afraid of falling. Their only wish is to compete on ever higher, ever bigger stages.

You can learn some dance moves, some different kinds of jumps, different turns. When working as a team, we can get different results. I think it’s great.

I used to be shy, but after I joined the skating team, I became a little more outgoing.

At first, the school just wanted to give the students a safe place to go after class and to let off some steam. But as they started doing well in competitions, more students started to join. The coaches treat the students like their own children. Aside from skating, they also help with their homework, and even prepare eggs for them to eat every day to replenish their protein after practice.

I wanted to go to a remote school to help less advantaged students. But when I first came here, I discovered that Taipei has a school with many students like that. So I thought, since there’s a school like that nearby in Taipei, I’ll go there.

Many students who graduate from Mingdao Elementary come back on their breaks to share their experiences with their younger classmates. The team is like a big happy family, passing on the torch so that everyone can skate onward toward their future.

Blooming purple wisteria bring tourists to Rueili

Every year from March to April, a sea of purple wisteria flowers bloom in Rueili, Chiayi. People from around Taiwan come to the rural village to enjoy wisteria season. A local coffee shop invites visitors to enjoy afternoon tea under the wisteria trees, even offering purple drinks to match the flowers.

Wisteria flowers hang like a purple waterfall, blooming layer by layer. Many tourists come to appreciate their beauty.

Ice cream and taro paste are put on fresh waffles, then sprinkled with purple yam powder. Another unique drink combines lemon green tea, lavender syrup, and sparkling water. This award-winning coffee shop creates a special menu of purple drinks and snacks just for wisteria season.

Of course, our specialty is coffee, but whenever wisteria season arrives and we see these beautiful purple flowers, we want unique drinks to go with it, so tourists can take great photos. They always want to take good photos before they are willing to drink it.

Rueili is also known for its tea. Fresh vegetables and tea leaves are the stars of many meals here.

Tea leaves are covered in batter and slowly fried on low heat, making a crispy snack with a fresh tea flavor. For the next dish, which goes great with rice, tofu is fried until crispy and then drizzled with a plum sauce. This whole table of dishes perfectly combines local ingredients and tea leaves.
