ITRI holds Global Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership Forum

2025-05-23

Amid shifting geopolitics and the prospect of new US tariff regimes, there are challenges in promoting non-red supply chains within the global semiconductor industry. To tackle this issue, Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute, or ITRI on Friday held the Global Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership Forum, centered on innovation, security, resilience and co-prosperity. With support from the government, it is calling for international cooperation and investments.

President Lai Ching-te, the foreign minister and economics minister, as well as representatives of the US, the UK, Japan and several EU member states in Taiwan are attending this forum, showing the interconnectedness of the global semiconductor industry.

Lai Ching-te
President
We, the nation, believe that Taiwan’s semiconductor industry has a responsibility to the world.

President Lai called on democracies to cooperate, while also promising that the government will support Taiwan’s chips industry through national policy, financing and taxation. The forum focused on four major issues: innovation, security, resilience and co-prosperity. More than 650 industry members took part.

Edwin Liu
ITRI President
We must continue to work hard on R&D and innovation of our technology. The second thing is security, meaning we now place great importance on non-red supply chains, manufacturing processes and testing and packaging, and more. In all these technologies, we must stay ahead. It doesn’t matter what policies other countries introduce. As long as our technology continues to lead, we will always occupy a very important position in the world.

Dennis Chen
DuPont Taiwan
Tariffs certainly impact our operations, but we’ve already made global arrangements in advance. So as long as we continue to work hard and innovate and maintain our core competitiveness, and keep up with the world, we should be able to make it through this current challenge.

Mi-Yong Kim
Former US senior export control officer
I think it’s great that ITRI, CIR and other entities are holding a program like this. It’s really important for Taiwan to spread the word about this importance, and for… to get the support of the international community.

Representatives from government, industry and academia shared their views on how Taiwan can promote non-red supply chains and retain its edge in semiconductor manufacturing amid the risks of shifting geopolitics and US tariffs.

2025-05-23
