Taipei alley restaurant serves chicken rice, soup for NT$10

Prices have been rising lately, especially in Taipei, where it’s becoming nearly impossible to find a cheap meal. But there are still some budget restaurants hidden in the capital if you know where to look. At one, you can get a chicken oil rice with soup for NT$10 each. If the chicken offal sells out, they serve the soup broth for free. There’s also a spot with sesame pastries for only NT$18 each that has a line out the door every day, or six mini pork buns for NT$30. Students and others tight on cash can be sure to mark these spots down for an end-of-the-month budget option.

These days when you go out to eat, you can easily spend over NT$100. Prices have gone up, but wages have stayed stagnant, making it hard to afford some daily necessities. Today, my challenge is to eat my fill for NT$50.

Look at this heaping bowl of rice, each grain expertly cooked, and topped with drizzled chicken oil. It smells deliciously enticing. But the best part is that it’s only NT$10. The soup is packed with chicken heart, liver, gizzard, and more, also for only NT$10. And every table has a plate of chicken, all for an affordable price. If you arrive a little late and the soup is sold out, the owner might give you a bowl of herbal broth for free. It’s already past mealtime, but this staple of Wanhua District is still packed with customers. It’s even a destination for people visiting from abroad.

It’s delicious and will definitely fill you up. It’s rare to find a bowl of rice for NT$10 or NT$10 for a chicken soup.

They’re probably just breaking even. These days, even a lunchbox is NT$100 or so.

If you’re craving dim sum, you can get one of these sesame pastries from another shop in Wanhua. There’s always a line for these sweet and savory pastries when they come out of the oven, each for only NT$18. The organizers of the World Masters Games even reached out to this bakery to provide 6,000 at a time for the participants.

It’s hard to stay in business these days. Prices keep going up and customers aren’t willing to pay. We only use quality ingredients. For instance, we only use the best Sanxing green onions.

Tucked away on Nanyang Street is another vendor serving pork buns at NT$30 for six. If that’s not enough, you can get a box of 18 for only NT$80. Every day when school lets out, students flock here to grab a bite before continuing on to cram school. They’re never worried about breaking the bank.

There are so many restaurants and some of them are pretty pricey. I have to think about how much I’m spending each meal.

If you want to eat something a bit nicer, more filling, what you want to eat, plus a drink, it’ll probably be around NT$250.

With prices climbing to upwards of NT$200 for a meal, some vendors are still doing all they can to keep prices low and portions generous. It’s a blessing for those who can’t afford anything more.

小資族福星! 雞油飯.下水湯只要10元 銅板美食隱身巷弄

近年物價漲不停,在台北更是很難找到一家便宜又好吃的店,但還是有銅板小吃隱藏在台北市各個地方,像是10塊錢的雞油飯配10塊錢的下水湯,雞內臟就算賣完,免費清湯也是當歸湯底;還有蟹殼黃,一顆18元,天天大排長龍,以及福州包6顆30元,小資族、學生族先通通塞進月底救星清單。

“現在到外頭用餐,動輒上百塊,物價漲,但薪水不漲,生活真的好難,今天我要挑戰用50塊,飽足一頓。”

看看這推成小山丘的米飯,粒粒分明,再淋上雞油油膏,光用聞的鹹香滋味不斷飄出來,這樣一碗才10塊錢;下水湯滿滿雞心、雞肝、雞胗等,也只要10元,每桌都還會配盤雞肉,因為老闆都給佛心價,像我太晚到,已經沒有下水湯,但免費提供的湯也不馬虎,是當歸熬煮湯底,萬華這間老字號的雞肉飯店,已經過了用餐時間,人潮還是滿滿滿,還有民眾出國來台特地來吃。

“很好吃肯定會飽,很難看到了10塊錢一碗飯,10塊錢一碗下水湯。”

“這應該已經算很平價了,現在隨便一個便當,都要100塊左右。”

想吃點下午茶點心,來顆蟹殼黃,萬華這間,只要是餅出爐,一定大排長龍,甜的、鹹的口味都是18元,今年還是世壯運合作店家,主辦單位一次下訂6千顆。

“現在生意真的是不好做,價錢一直調,客人也會沒辦法接受。我們用的材料都是用比較好、等級比較好的,像我們的蔥用的也是最好的三星蔥。”

隱身在南陽街,也有便宜的包子,福州包6顆30元,擔心太少吃不夠,大盒的18顆也才80塊,每到放學時間,學生來到這買個晚餐準備補習,親民價格對民眾來說負擔相對小。

“因為現在餐飲業那麼多,成本有的都滿高的,就會考慮(每餐價格)這些東西。”

[[民眾]]
“可能吃稍微好一點,飽一點,吃想吃的,加飲料的話,可能要到250元。”

畢竟在外面聚餐,一頓飯吃下來200元起跳,佛心店家不惜成本也要端出「俗又大碗」的美食,想省荷包又想顧五臟廟,確實成了消費者的一大福音。
