2025 Summer World University Games open in Germany’s Rhine-Rhur area

The 2025 Summer World University Games opened on July 16 in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, and Taiwan is taking part with 91 athletes. During the opening ceremony, Taiwanese athletes appeared fresh-faced and enthusiastic despite still being a liitle jet-lagged. For many of them, it’s the first time they’re joining the opening ceremony of an international sporting event, so it’s well worth attending even if still a little tired.

Taiwan’s team takes the stage. All smiles, they wave confidently at the audience and make their way to reserved seats to watch the rest of the opening. It’s the first time for many contestants on the team to attend a ceremony like this.

The men’s basketball team only arrived in Germany the morning of the opening. Despite being a little jetlagged, they still appear enthusiastic. Among the entire team, only Bruce Lin has attended the opening of an international sports game before, at the Asian Games.

I think sometimes players may think it’s a hassle and may not want to attend, but I think it’s great to come and check it out.

Then, the flame lighting ceremony is on. The main torchbearer is Germany’s legendary athlete Heide Rosendahl, who won two gold medals at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. She takes center stage, accompanied by six other younger torchbearers. Six LED towers around the venue light up when they take their positions, and the games have officially begun!

萊茵魯爾世大運盛大開幕台灣代表團91名國手出席

在德國舉行的2025萊茵魯爾世界大學運動會今天舉行開幕典禮，台灣代表團由女網好手楊亞依，以及"擊劍王子"陳奕通擔任掌旗官，一共91位選手出席，許多人都是第一次參加大型國際綜合運動會的開幕式，感覺相當新鮮，也很興奮。

台灣代表團進場，選手們個個充滿活力，信心滿滿，大家開心在中央舞台，向觀眾揮手致意後，隨即被導引到一旁的休息區，繼續欣賞精彩的開幕表演，許多台灣好手都是第一次體驗。

台灣男籃隊，開幕式當天上午才剛剛抵達，但全員不受時差影響，精神抖擻，一起參加開幕典禮，陣中只有林信寬曾經見識過亞運會的開幕典禮。

“有時候我覺得球員可能會覺得，這種事情很麻煩(開幕典禮) ，不一定想參加，但我覺得可以去看看也滿不錯啊”

開幕典禮的壓軸好戲，聖火點燃儀式，由78歲德國田徑傳奇，1972年慕尼黑奧運的雙金得主海德•羅森達爾，將聖火帶到場中央，帶領其他年輕的火炬手，同步點燃會場四周的六座LED塔，比賽也正式展開。
