Hospital holds memorial service for breast surgeon killed by a bus

Last Saturday, Dr. Chou Chia-cheng who headed Taoyuan General Hospital’s breast surgery department was killed by a bus while crossing a street in Taipei. On Monday, the hospital held a memorial service for him. Other medical staff members and patients all remembered him for his service over the years.

I can’t accept this. He really helped us face many psychological problems, not just our physical ailments. He helped us get a healthy body today. We’re really grateful and really sad that we’ve lost him.
Dr. Chou Chia-cheng was hit by a bus while crossing a street in Taipei. He was severely injured and couldn’t be resuscitated. After the incident was made known at Taoyuan General Hospital, where he served, his colleagues and patients all mourned his loss. On Monday, the hospital held a memorial service for him. At the venue, a video presentation showed pictures of him working alongside the medical team over the years.
At the time of his death, Dr. Chou was the head of the breast surgery department at Taoyuan General Hospital, under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. He was an authority in treating breast cancer, and has won multiple awards from the health ministry for cancer treatment. He started as a general surgeon and at one point of his career later on, he was responsible for all of the hospital’s patients with breast diseases. That made him so busy he could not return home for days. His colleagues compared him to an alkaline battery because it seemed as if he could always keep going.

Taiwan’s medical field is mourning the loss of a respected figure who not only selflessly cared for patients but also was a great team member at the hospital.

部立桃園醫院乳房外科主任周佳正，上週北上參加醫學研討會，遭北市公車撞上送醫不治。桃園醫院週一在院內設立追思場地，第一天湧入大批院內員工和病患前往悼念。牆面上播放著周主任過往的工作影像，令人動容，許多前來的醫護和民眾頻頻拭淚，不捨良醫就此殞落。

“它是純白的身體，然後有翅膀，我想說如果主任可以騎著它，祂在天堂就可以到處來去，不要用走的，不要像上次一樣用走的，那麼辛苦”
送給周醫師有翅膀的獨角獸，病人潘小姐談起周醫師的好，難過的邊說邊哽咽。而不捨周醫師離開的還有她。

周佳正醫師上週六，在台北過馬路時，遭公車撞上，重傷不治。噩耗傳回桃園醫院，同仁、病人心痛、無法接受。院方週一設置追思會，牆面上，播放一幕幕周醫師過往診治畫面，與醫療團隊並肩作戰的回憶。
部立桃園醫院乳房外科主任周佳正醫師，是乳房癌症權威，多次獲得衛福部「防癌尖兵」獎項肯定。早年一般外科出身，但他曾扛下桃醫所有乳房異常病人，忙到連家都回不了，還被形容是"鹼性電池"，永遠有用不完的精力。

視病如親，又不吝提攜後輩，這樣良醫殞落，對台灣醫界來說，更失去了一位堅毅的夥伴與領航者。
