Taiwan loosens controls on Japanese products from five prefectures

Testing rules are about to be relaxed for food imports from five prefectures in Japan that were affected by the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011. In 60 days, the import controls will be downgraded from batch testing to random sampling. The Food and Drug Administration says that that in the past 14 years, 100% of products have cleared the inspections. In addition, some 6 million Taiwanese go to Japan every year and eat local food. We have listened to opinions from all sides. Based on the six risk assessment reports conducted in recent years, we believe the risk is negligible. Six million Taiwanese people go to Japan every year, and when they are there they eat food that is subject to local regulations. They enjoy the local food culture and their travels there.

Only China, South Korea and Russia have special regulations for these food products. We think it’s time to align our policy with the rest of the world.
Health Minister Shih Chung-liang says countries around the world are returning to source-based regulation when it comes to food imports from Japan. Of the 53 countries that tightened controls, 49 have already fully lifted restrictions. He said that following scientific evidence, Taiwan was following suit to normalize Japanese food imports.

日本福島食品最快年底解禁! 原逐批檢驗改抽樣檢驗

日本福島等五大縣食品的輻射檢測，食藥署預告60天後，將從逐批改成抽樣檢驗，鬆綁過去進口管制。食藥署署長姜志剛說，福島核災過去14年期間，進口檢測100%合格，加上一年有600萬台人在當地吃得開心，因此檢驗將不再那麼嚴格。

“我們積極聽取各方的意見，在近年來做的6個風險評估的報告，也認為風險是可忽略的。600萬人是去日本旅遊，國人前往日本旅遊的時候，對日本相關的食品管制，以及飲食美食的文化，都享受其中也享受旅遊的快樂。”

“目前也只剩下這個中國還有韓國，以及俄羅斯尚有特殊的管理措施，應該是回到這個跟世界同步。”
衛福部長石崇良，新官上任做出第一項政策宣布，他說各國陸續恢復常態性源頭管理，53個國家內有49個國家完全解除管制措施，且在有科學依據的前提下，顧及民眾健康、也讓進口日本食材和世界同步。
