Three students injured at NCHU labs in less than 24h

2025-09-04

In just 24 hours, two lab incidents have left three students with injuries at Taichung’s National Chung Hsing University.

The more recent incident happened on Thursday afternoon. Students at a food science lab were handling strong acid waste when white gas started filling the room and triggering the fire alarm. More than 100 students were evacuated and two were sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The previous incident happened on Wednesday night, at a lab in the engineering department. A lithium battery exploded, resulting in burns to a student’s arm. The university says the incident was likely caused by spontaneous combustion, and not human error.
