Police officer stops social worker who paid for father’s funeral

And here’s a heartwarming story all the way from Chiayi. Chen Peng-hsiang, a 36-year-old social worker was recently stopped by a police officer while buying a late-night snack. At first he thought he was going to get in trouble for a traffic violation, but it turned out to be a very different reason. The officer just wanted to say thank you to Mr. Chen, for helping him pay for his father’s funeral four years ago. Let’s hear more.

While I was out to get a late-night snack, I ran into a police officer who kept looking at me. I thought something must be wrong, that maybe I’d parked illegally. But then he told me who he was. It turns out I had helped him pay for his father’s funeral. Back then, he was considering dropping out of the police academy to work and earn money. But I reached out to friends and other organizations to raise money for the funeral, around NT$80,000 to NT$90,000 in expenses, and we paid it all off.

That is amazing positive feedback for us. In our daily work, we face a lot of stress and setbacks. So these kinds of stories are a huge inspiration and motivation for us.
Thanks to Chen’s help, the police officer was able to complete his studies and now works to protect his community. For Chen, the chat with the policeman he once helped was a huge validation of his hard work, proving that anyone can be a force for good.

嘉義一名36歲的社工陳鵬翔，在華山東石站服務10年，日前他分享，在買宵夜的途中，當街被員警攔下，還以為犯了交通違規，沒想到劇情出現大逆轉，當員警問他，是不是叫鵬翔，還記得4年前，幫了一名單親爸爸圓滿喪禮嗎？我是他的兒子，陳鵬翔才恍然大悟，原來對方是來報恩的。

“吃宵夜途中，然後剛好遇到一位警察，想說他一直盯著我看，我想說是我發生什麼事情，還是有違停，然後他才跟我說，其實他是我當初幫助的一個單親爸爸的兒子，他無力負擔這喪葬費用，一度想要放棄警專休學去工作，當下我就集合了我身邊認識的友人與一些單位，我們共同去把喪禮的費用，大概預計8、9萬，把它付清”

“這個都是一個還蠻大的正面回饋，我們在經歷了很多日常的服務，或者經歷過一些比較負面的挫折，還是過程的時候，我覺得這個都可以，非常大大的激勵我們自己本身的正面心理”
當時出發點，只是希望讓就讀警專的少年，無後顧之憂，繼續求學，如今對方從困頓少年，成為守護嘉義的警察，這讓幫助過上百位長者的陳鵬翔，相信真的有善的循環。
