Taiwan and the UK are deepening ties in high-tech research and development. Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute, or ITRI, has signed a new cooperation agreement with the UK’s National Physical Laboratory. The partnership aims to advance innovation in key fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and advanced materials, and pave the way for closer collaboration in global measurement standards and industrial technologies.
ITRI and the UK’s National Physical Laboratory sign a collaboration agreement, marking a step forward for Taiwan-UK relations.
Edwin Liu
ITRI President
We’ve worked with National Physical Laboratory for many years. I think our ties with the UK are very close, and I hope that our standards laboratories can conduct further standards research in the field of semiconductors and advanced materials.
Amid the rapid evolution of technology and shifts in supply chains, ITRI was commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs to establish the National Measurement Laboratory and to boost international cooperation. In May, it established an office in the UK and on Sept. 11, it signed a collaboration agreement with the NPL. Both parties hope the agreement can build a foundation for further collaboration in measurement technology applied to areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence and key materials.
Gareth Edwards
NPL Head of Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Strategy
We have an excellent and innovative industry base that is investing in novel compound semiconductor manufacturing and we look forward to the collaboration with Taiwan and ITRI and to help grow that and to create a closer collaboration.
Edwin Liu
ITRI President
We at ITRI hope to serve as a connecting bridge between Taiwan and the international community, both in scientific research and the industrial sector.
The partnership between the two parties is set to get stronger through deeper cooperation projects, in turn enhancing innovation in measurement technologies via seminars and technical exchanges. These joint efforts are expected to inject new momentum into industrial innovation.
