Hostel makes videos of little-known destinations to revitalize Kenting tourism

Many people are choosing to spend their vacations abroad after the pandemic. The dwindling numbers have impacted local tourism, especially southern Taiwan’s Kenting. It’s far to get to and has been getting bad press, resulting in a sharp decline in tourism. Businesses have been relying on long weekends and large events to bring in visitors. But there’s still one small business owner who’s been working hard to promote Kenting by regularly posting videos of the area’s secret destinations and beautiful landscapes on social media.

These short videos introduce a treehouse in Manzhou and a hidden natural swimming hole in Hongchaikeng.

The creator calls herself Kenting Chihling. She can often be found outside, seeking out unknown destinations on the Hengchun Peninsula. She makes videos about her findings, which she then posts on Threads.

Over time, I’ve shot around 100 videos about Kenting. People most want to know about sights and shops to explore.

Kenting Chihling runs a hostel with her husband. In her free time, she’s always either shooting or editing a video. Seeing all the negative press about Kenting, she decided to present her home the way that she sees it.

It’s good that people care about Kenting and we’ll continue to improve the bad things. But when people are willing to improve at least a little, they should be encouraged, even as people continue to keep tabs on them.

There’s also a restaurant on the main road that’s doing something similar to promote Kenting. All the photographs hanging along the walls were taken by the owner.


Originally a photographer, Wu Kou-kou moved to Kenting after getting married and opened a restaurant with her husband. Apart from displaying her photos in the shop, her Facebook is also filled with images of Hengchun’s landscapes, wildlife, and people. She posts something nearly every day.

There are a lot of people who came here especially because they saw my photos of landscapes or sea turtles. It makes me really happy. Even if they don’t come here and spend money, I’m still very happy.

Since the borders reopened after the pandemic, fewer people are traveling domestically, especially to Kenting. But these two small business owners are working hard to promote their little peninsula on social media, hoping to one day revisit their glory days.

拯救國境之南"國旅危機" 民宿業者自製墾丁祕境影片

疫情後,不少民眾選擇出國,國旅大受影響,受創最嚴重的莫過於屏東的墾丁,加上距離遠,負面新聞不斷,旅遊人數銳減,只能靠連假和大型活動來撐場。不過還是有業者很努力的替墾丁宣傳,拍攝祕境和大自然美照,放上社群平台,希望能找回遊客。

短片介紹滿州的樹屋,還有紅柴坑的祕境天然泳池。

她是”墾丁痣靈”,經常上山下海,尋找恆春半島不為人知的景點,拍攝成影片,放在Threads上介紹。

“大概拍了墾丁一百則,陸陸續續拍了一百則影片。大家最想要知道的是探景跟探店。”

墾丁痣靈跟先生一起經營自家民宿,空閒時不是在拍片就是在剪片。因為有感於墾丁太多負面新聞,她選擇以她自己真實看到的面貌,呈現給大家。

“大家關注墾丁是一件很好的事情,不好的墾丁繼續改進,但是如果願意改進一點點的進步,都該值得被鼓勵,但是要繼續的監督。”

無獨有偶,墾丁大街上也有一間餐廳,以同樣的方式,替墾丁做宣傳。餐廳的牆面上,掛著一張張的攝影作品,全都是出自老闆娘之手。

吳蔻蔻本身是一位攝影師,嫁到墾丁後,與先生一起經營餐廳。除了牆上的照片外,她個人的臉書也都是一張張恆春半島的風景、生態和人文照片,幾乎天天都發文。

“因為有很多人因為我分享的美景,或者是看到海龜,然後他們就是特地來,我其實內心是很開心的,他就算沒有實際的來我們這邊消費,我還是覺得很開心。”

疫情後,國境大開,國旅人數大受影響,墾丁變得乏人問津。兩名業者努力在社群平台宣傳恆春半島之美,期盼找回昔日的榮景。
