Floods reach 1-story high as Matai’an Creek’s barrier lake bursts

After a whole day of extremely heavy rain from Typhoon Ragasa, the barrier lake upstream of Matai’an Creek overflew and caused the bridge downstream to be washed away. Further downstream, floods in Guangfu Village reached one-story high in some parts of town. Local residents had no choice but to find shelter higher up and wait out the storm.

…the bridge snaps off. The deck, weighing more than 100 tons was washed away immediately.
From a bird’s eye view, it can be clearly seen that the bridge’s 900m deck was all gone. Only the piers remain in place.
Incessant heavy rain made the barrier lake upstream began to overflow at 2: 50 in the afternoon. The bridge collapsed at around 3:30, and the broken parts were taken right towards the downtown area of Guangfu Village downstream.
Meanwhile, downtown Guanfu was already flooded up to one story-high in some parts of the village.

I was going back there. Oh my gosh. Oh my goodness. The floods are making their way here.
Section 1, Zhongzheng Road in downtown Guanfu has become a muddy stream overflowing with debris. The floods were so heavy that even a military-class truck got carried away. Stocks in a supermarket were also all gone or destroyed. Because the flood reached so high, local residents had no choice but to take shelter on higher floors. Some living in one-story houses had to go onto the roof.
A woman was seen clutching onto a pillar in the local market, being stuck there for having failed to escape in time. Her daughter was so worried that she made a social media post asking for help.
By 5 p.m., another wave of flooding began to batter the area at an even greater strength. Hualien County Government has since expanded the evacuation zone. Locals have no option but to leave their homes and hope for the best when they return.

經過一夜大雨，花蓮馬太鞍溪堰塞湖，在下午2點50分溢流後，先是沖斷了馬太鞍溪橋，滾滾泥流更直沖進光復鄉市區，水勢就像是海嘯來襲，淹水將近一樓高，民眾紛紛躲在高處，只少上百輛車子遭滅頂，場面相當駭人。
滾滾洪水不斷沖刷，還沖上馬太鞍溪橋，沒想到下一秒
馬太鞍溪橋，竟被洪水攔腰沖斷，上百公噸的橋面，直接被沖走。
從空拍畫面看得更清楚，長達900公尺的橋面，全被洪水吞噬，只剩橋墩還在苦撐。
連日大雨，馬太鞍溪堰塞湖，下午14：50開始溢流，約15:30沖斷馬太鞍溪橋，接著滾滾泥流，直沖進光復鄉市區。
滾滾土石黑流，淹進家鄉、擋住去路，讓居民、機車騎士，看傻了眼。

“我要回後面，我的天啊，我的媽呀，水要淹過來了啦”
位於光復市區的中正路一段，變成一條漂漂河，傢俱、車輛無一倖免、一片狼藉。洪水沖刷力道之大，就連軍用卡車也被沖走，連鎖超市貨架的貨品，也全被沖毀，由於水淹超過一層樓高，民眾只能趕緊躲到高樓層，甚至冒險登上平房屋頂避難，險象環生。
洪水來得又急又快，一名婦人在光復市場，來不及逃，只能緊緊抱著柱子，不被洪水沖走，當事人女兒心急如焚，緊急發文向外界求救。
只是下午五點，第二波溢流再度報到，水勢比之前來得更強更急，花蓮縣府也再擴大疏散範圍，但看看這洶湧的灰色泥水，光看就怵目驚心。
