Taiwan Expo kicks off in New Delhi with 107 businesses

Since the start of the US-China trade war, India has become “blue oceans” for Taiwanese businesses looking to expand. So how are Taiwan companies faring there? FTV went to New Delhi for a first-hand look at the annual Taiwan Expo at India’s capital. The event was packed with industry giants such as Foxconn, HIWIN, and Delta Electronics, all trying to break into to this market of 1.4 billion people. Let’s hear more.

The General Manager of Foxconn in India said they have operations in seven Indian states and have created 72,000 job opportunities. They will continue increasing their investment in India to support the country’s local manufacturing policies. This is a key focus of our exhibition. If the Indian market continues to grow this rapidly, bilateral trade between Taiwan and India will also see rapid growth."

The tariffs mainly impact manufacturers involved in the supply chains of footwear and mobile phones. They’ll have to adjust their strategies to adapt to tariff policies.

Taiwan’s investments in India have generated more than US$550 million in business opportunities over the past eight years. At this year’s Taiwan Expo, 107 Taiwan companies set up more than 180 booths. And as tensions between the US and China continue to rise, more firms are choosing India as a base, to diversify risk and secure a strategic position as global supply chains shift.

美中貿易戰開打後,印度和東南亞成台商布局新藍海,民視新聞記者特別到印度首都新德里,直擊一年一度的台灣形象展,現場很熱鬧,鴻海、上銀、台達電等產業大咖全數到齊,共同搶進14億人口的龐大市場。

“鴻海在印度的總經理也說,他們現在在印度七個州,並且創造了個七萬兩千個工作機會,會繼續加碼投資印度,支持印度在地製造的政策,是我們這次展覽的重點,印度市場如果繼續快速成長的話,我相信台印雙邊的貿易額,也會繼續快速成長”

“關稅的議題主要是在供應鏈投資的廠商,包括鞋業,包括手機,他們在這邊的策略可能,必須要針對關稅實施做調整”

台灣在印度設廠,八年下來促進5.5億美元換算新台幣超過178億商機,這回107家企業超過180個攤位,隨著美中角力持續升溫,台商選擇以印度為據點,不僅分散風險,也在全球供應鏈的重新布局中搶得一席之地。
