Decades-old oyster shop goes viral over handsome dancing chef

An oyster omelet restaurant in Keelung that’s been in business for over 60 years had been getting a lot of attention recently for an unexpected reason. One of the chefs there is not only fit, but also likes to dance at work, impressing the patrons. He also serves as an anti-drug spokesperson, going to schools during the day to speak to students and selling oyster omelets at night.

A handsome guy wears sunglasses and shows off his bulging biceps, his apron barely able to conceal the muscles underneath as he dances in front of a skillet, using a spatula as a microphone. But this isn’t a performer. He actually makes oyster omelets.

Many people think that dressed like this, I look like a model. But I’m not. Most of the time I’m making oyster omelets here.

This musclebound man makes omelets, golden brown and packed with fillings, served piping hot to your table. But it’s not just the oysters the customers are ogling.

This restaurant has been around in Keelung for over 60 years, passed down through three generations. But after the latest generation didn’t want to take over, four local guys stepped in. To drum up business, they brought in Yu as their chef. People passing by often give a double take, and they’ve even made a breakthrough online.

It’s really too hot out. It’s a good thing I’m not shy. I would try out different outfits, cooler outfits. The customers liked it, so I kept it.

Everyone thought we hired a model, or found a hot guy to come dance who didn’t know how to cook, but we didn’t.

The chef has another gig with the performance group Han Dong H.D.A. from Keelung. They travel to middle and high schools around Taiwan to perform acrobatics and dance, all to make their anti-drug message more exciting for the kids.

During the day, I promote drug awareness, and in the evening, I make oyster omelets. I give the people different things. It’s not just fresh food. They can enjoy the sights as well as the food.

This hot guy selling piping hot omelets true to his hometown is giving his customers a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.

基隆有間開了超過60年的蚵仔煎老店，近期在網路上引發討論，因為店裡的猛男廚師不只有健壯好身材，還常常在店裡大秀舞蹈，讓不少顧客大讚"太養眼"!而猛男廚師還有另一個身分，就是基隆在地反毒宣導團體的成員，白天跑校園推廣反毒，晚上賣蚵仔煎，可說是斜槓大師。

帶上墨鏡、大秀二頭肌，圍裙也擋不住好身材，在煎臺前展現舞技，連鍋鏟都有戲份，但這可不是猛男秀，而是在賣蚵仔煎。

“大家可能覺得我穿這樣子，很像男模或是model，其實不是，我就是平時都會在這裡煎蚵仔煎”

表面金黃、料多豐富的肌肉猛男現做蚵仔煎，熱騰騰上桌，客人看了不只胃口大開，也心花朵朵開。

基隆這家蚵仔煎老店有一甲子歷史，傳承3代，後代卻無人願意接手，4位正港「基隆囝仔」加入經營，為了打響名氣，他們祭出奇招，猛男賣蚵仔煎，不只路過客人多看兩眼，也成功在網路掀起話題。

“天氣真的太熱了，那我剛好比較不怕生，有時候嘗試不一樣的服裝，清涼的服裝，其實客人蠻喜歡的，所以我就維持這樣的形象”

“都以為我們是請外面的model，或是隨便找個猛男來跳，根本不會煎(蚵仔煎) ，但其實並不是這樣”

猛男廚師還有另一個身分，是基隆在地特技表演團體「撼動H.D.A」團員，在全臺國高中進行反毒宣導活動，用精彩的特技舞蹈巡迴演出，讓反毒課程不再沈悶。

猛男兼職賣蚵仔煎，傳承在地好味道，客人吃美食之餘，也能顧「眼睛」。

Hualien Council Speaker storms into meeting hosted by Fu Kun-chi

KMT caucus whip Fu Kun-chi, who took part in proposing a reconstruction bill for Guangfu, hosted a meeting on Monday afternoon with Hualien County officials. Because local representatives were selected at the discretion of county officials, not everyone had a chance to attend the meeting. One such person was Hualien County Council speaker Chang Chun, along with his supporters, who perceived the lack of an invitation as a snub. Chang was furious about the perceived snub by Fu, who’s organized the meeting to discuss a reconstruction bill for Guangfu. Chang believes that he ought to have been invited.

-Hands off. It’s a crime!
-Fu Kun-chi must resign!
-He’s in the act of a crime!
-Shameless! Shame on you!
-He kicked me. You all saw it.
-I kicked the table! The table!

Fu accused Chang of assault. They even played tug-of-war with the microphone.

-They’re grabbing our stuff right now. A formerly convicted hooligan. He’s bombed our meeting.

Air force squadron cartoon emblems designed by Disney

The Ministry of National Defense’s flagship military television show, “Fighting! A New Perspective for All,” coproduced by Formosa TV, reveals the secrets of air force squadron emblems, many of which incorporate cartoons. The emblem of the 26th Squadron is a witch on a broom holding a spiked club, the 7th Squadron’s is the big bad wolf, and the 28th Squadron’s is a fire-breathing dragon. All of them were created by none other than cartoon master Walt Disney himself.

After completing a thorough check of the jet’s system, it hits the runway and prepares for takeoff.

Those who look carefully may notice a cartoon on the side of the jet of a witch on a broom, holding a spiked club. This is the creative emblem for the air force’s 26th Squadron.

The witch riding a broom symbolizes agility and lightning speed, as fast as the wind. The spiked club she holds represents our extremely powerful combat capabilities that can strike the enemy hard.

This cartoon emblem was actually designed by the famous cartoonist Walt Disney.

In the beginning, there was a pilot who was either friends or family with Disney who asked him to draw something for him. When Disney finished the drawing, other people thought it was quite good, so they started approaching him for more designs.

During World War II, the Republic of China’s military joined forces with the US in the fight against Japan. Disney also designed the distinctive emblem for this multinational team that remains unchanged to this day.

The witch represents vitality, and her powerful magic represents unlimited possibilities. It’s very different from what I usually associate with a combat squadron, but I liked it the moment I saw it. It gives a sense of liveliness and enthusiasm.

In addition to the 26th Squadron’s witch, the 7th Squadron’s big bad wolf emblem and the 28th Squadron’s fire-breathing dragon were also designed by Disney. The dragon’s hat originally displayed the stars from the US flag, but was changed to display the star from Taiwan’s flag. An expert shared just how challenging these emblems are to draw.

If I drew the witch myself, it would take me about two hours. But for the big bad wolf, it might take me almost four hours to decide on a final version.

These creative cartoon emblems display the history of Taiwan’s air force since World War II. Today’s pilots defend Taiwan’s airspace under the same emblems as their predecessors.

Women tricks stores into giving extra change

Several shops on Fushou Street in New Taipei’s Xinzhuang District were recently scammed by a woman whose sleight of hand fooled them into thinking they had given her incorrect change. One restaurant gave her an additional NT$500, only to later discover they had been tricked when checking surveillance footage. A nearby fruit vendor was also initially fooled, but quickly realized they had been tricked and chased the woman down.

In what seems like a normal interaction, a customer gives the employee NT$1,000 to pay for her meal. The employee takes out a NT$500 bill along with several NT$100 bills and hands the change to the customer. But the customer quickly sneaks the NT$500 bill into her pocket, then claims the employee didn’t give her enough change. The employee hands her another NT$500, cheated by the woman’s sleight of hand.

The woman was chatting with the employee as they were giving change, which distracted them while she quickly hid the NT$500 bill. She was wearing a hat and mask, so you really couldn’t see her facial features.

Zooming in on the surveillance footage, it’s clear that the woman quickly took the bottom NT$500 bill and slipped it under her black bag and into her pocket with her right hand. She then brought her hand back to the remaining bills to count them and claimed she hadn’t been given enough change. Later the same day, the woman tried the same trick at a fruit store down the street. But this time, they weren’t so easily fooled.

When she turned to leave, I immediately looked at the surveillance footage and saw her trick. I caught up with her and after speaking briefly with her, she admitted her fault and handed me back the NT$500.

This woman visited multiple stores on Fushou Street in New Taipei’s Xinzhuang District and tricked employees into giving her extra change. She may have used the same tactic at many stores across the city.

Taiwan consumes around 2.85 billion cups of coffee every year, meaning there’s a large amount of used coffee grounds. These coffee grounds will produce large amounts of greenhouse gases if left to compost on their own. A shoe company has smelled a green business opportunity in these coffee grounds, turning them into colorful footwear that can be recycled again and again.

This pair of boots—they’re waterproof rainboots—they’re made out of 15 to 20 cups of used coffee grounds. If a trillion cups of coffee are consumed a year, that produces around 40 billion kilograms of coffee grounds. These coffee grounds produce large amounts of methane and carbon dioxide. In fact these two gases are the two largest greenhouse gases.

High-performance and low-cost materials are usually products of the petrochemical industry. This shoe company instead strives to make their products out of recycled materials. In addition to used coffee grounds, the company also recycles PET bottles, as
well as by-products of the agriculture and semiconductor industries.

Once a customer pays a certain fee, we will be completely responsible for their product. We’ll provide them with new shoes, and once those get worn out, we’ll recycle them, turn them into a new pair that’s given back to the customer.

The company truly practices circular economy by reusing waste materials again and again, making it a model business under the Ministry of Environment’s Resource Circulation Promotion Act. The ministry is actively promoting sustainable local brands, taking the lead in waste reduction and encouraging green innovations, taking Taiwan closer toward its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
