Dramatic scenes in Su’ao after 1,000mm rainfall in 3 days

Su’ao became a town of muddy canals on Tuesday, due to the heavy rains that battered the northeastern region. The combined forces of Tropical Storm Fung-wong and northeasterly winds brought more than 1,000mm of rain to the coastal town. Streets turned into rivers, homes were submerged up to the first floor, and rescue teams dispatched dinghies to help the locals. More than 7,000 homes were left without power.
Shocking images of the flooding in Su’ao show the first floor of buildings completely underwater.
The second floor is now the first. Water covers the street as far as the eye can see, and rescue crews move about in dinghies and amphibious vehicles.
The water even caused an electrical box to blow up, sending sparks flying.
Locals had to contend with scary situations, such as floodwater pouring right into their homes.
Residents watched helplessly as muddy water steadily filled their building.
– The water’s already to my knees.
– How long has it been since such a big flood?
– About 15 years.
– My house is flooded.
– Were you scared?
– Yes, the water suddenly came rushing in!
Some even had to contend with landslides.
A brown waterfall has formed right at home, with a torrent of water flowing through the living room. The downpours turned Su’ao into an isolated archipelago.

The town center has pretty much become an island. All roads out are flooded, so vehicles can’t go in or out. Despite the pumping stations running nonstop, the water level keeps climbing. The whole downtown area is underwater.
The downpour and flooding is Yilan’s worst in more than a decade, and left 7,000 households without power in Su’ao, Luodong and Wujie.

鳳凰颱風加上東北季風雙重影響，夾帶驚人雨量，宜蘭三天累積雨量破一千毫米。週二晚間蘇澳甚至水淹一層樓高，相關單位得出動橡皮艇、兩棲戰車救人。不少蘇澳居民直呼，距離上一次淹大水，已是10幾年前，這次的淹水，真的讓他們嚇壞。許多民眾拍下的驚險畫面，一一曝光。
宜蘭蘇澳淹多慘！光用看的就相當震驚，大雨狂下水淹一層樓高。
民宅二樓變一樓！眼前汪洋一片看不到盡頭，相關單位出動橡皮艇、兩棲戰車救人。
大雨猛炸，更有變電箱因此爆炸、火花四濺。
民眾拍下這幕簡直嚇壞！這水實在淹太猛，民宅更是被洪水侵襲。
公寓一樓幾乎被淹沒！還有人家中被滾滾黃水襲擊，居民看了實在心好累。

還有人碰上土石流。
家裡成了河道！滾滾黃河穿過家中，一路向外流。一場大雨，讓蘇澳鎮宛如成了一座孤島。

“整個蘇澳市區幾乎變成一個孤島了，對外的道路其實都已經淹水了，車輛也沒有辦法進出。整個蘇澳溪的溪水暴漲，抽水站一直抽水，可是還是沒有辦法，蘇澳市區都泡在水裡面了。”
這一次的暴雨淹水是宜蘭近十幾年來最嚴重的一次，還造成蘇澳、羅東和五結超過七千戶停電。
