US President Trump signs Taiwan Assurance Implementation Act into law

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed the Taiwan Assurance Implementation Act into law. This means that the US State Department will be required to review and update, every five years, its guidelines on official US interactions with Taiwan. Foreign Minster Lin Chia-lung welcomed the decision, and called it a great step forward for Taiwan-US relations. Let’s find out more.

This is the first Taiwan-friendly bill that the Trump administration signed into law. Earlier there were some US-skeptic voices. Let’s just leave it as that.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung welcomes the law, and believes that it would enable official engagement between Taiwan and the US. That would be a breakthrough ever since the US severed formal diplomatic relations.

There were self-imposed restrictions on mutual visits and meetings, such as at federal agencies or at our representative offices. In fact, after the Taiwan Travel Act was signed into law, all these are gradually being allowed. Now, through law, restrictions can be further loosened. This is an important step forward for the development of normal Taiwan-US relations.
Also to watch is Taiwan-Japan relations, particularly with the ongoing spat between China and Japan. After condemning Japan for bringing up the Treaty of San Francisco last week, China doubled down on suppressing Taiwan.

For that comment, well, here I am. Whether with the Taiwan passport or the foreign minister’s name card, we are able to travel all over the world.
Meanwhile, the National Security Bureau is reportedly expecting China to conduct another round of military exercises that can be likened to “Joint Sword-C,” if the ongoing dispute with Japan continues. An unnamed official also said the drills are most likely to be held on Dec. 13, also the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Day, to allude to Japan’s war crimes and hinting at what some observers believe to be Japan’s remilitarization.

The worst assumption must be made about the enemy. We cannot rule out any possibilities. For the CCP, all they had to do was to act on the premise of their regular joint exercise and patrol, or their regular far-sea comprehensive training mission, give it a specific code name, and that will turn into an exercise with an agenda. If necessary, we will reach out to cooperate with international partners.
With these recent developments, many are watching if China will hold another round of military drills encircling Taiwan.

美國參眾議院日前通過"台灣保證實施法案"，總統川普在當地時間2日，正式簽署生效，外交部長林佳龍表示，這對未來台美官員互訪等發展，都是向前邁進的重要一步。不過除了美國，台灣近期和日本關係升溫，讓中共似乎很不滿，中國外交部發言人林劍在例行記者會上，表示"台灣沒有外交部長"，對此林佳龍霸氣回嗆"我就在這!"
美國總統川普，當地時間2日，正式簽下"台灣保證實施法案"，除了廢止對台聯繫準則，未來每5年，就會審查一次雙方交往規範。

這是川普政府第一份通過的友台法案，先前有一些質疑台美關係的，我們這個就不攻自破。
外交部長林佳龍，樂見法案生效，尤其台美斷交後，雙方官員往來互動紅線，如今有望出現重大突破。

“包括互訪、洽談公務，比如說到聯邦的機構，或是到我們的代表處，以前有些自我設限，事實上在台灣旅行法之後，這都是朝開放的方向，現在能夠正式透過立法，把這個鬆綁掉，這對台美關係的正常發展，是非常重要的一步。”
不只台美外交突破，近期台日關係快速昇華，也讓中國頻頻眼紅，不但不承認舊金山和約，甚至口出狂言。

“有沒有外交部長，我就在這裡，不管是台灣的護照，或外交部長的名片，我們都可以走遍天下。”
國安人士透露，未來一周，中國要是找不到台階下，不排除採取更極端的手段，包括發動"聯合利劍-C軍演"，找台灣出氣，甚至操作「法西斯」議題，而時間點就落在12/13南京大屠殺國家公祭日。

“料敵從寬，也不能夠排除任何可能性。以中共來講，他只要把例行的像是，聯合戰備警巡，以及遠海長訓的常態性演習，做一個包裝，再提供一個特定的演習代號，就可以變成是一個有針對性的演習。有必要的時候，我們會啟動跟國際友盟的合作。”
中國頻頻文攻武嚇，企圖擴大軍事威脅在國際社會刷存在感，恐怕只會造成反效果。
