Last-minute cancelation of budget flight turned out to be an error

South Korean budget airline Eastar Jet has announced that it’s canceling all returning flights on Wednesdays and all departing flights on Thursdays, between Taipei and Busan, up until the end of March next year. The only exceptions are New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. However, some travelers that booked a ticket with them via Trip.com outside of these dates still got their flights canceled. Turns out it was an error on Trip.com’s behalf, but some travelers have already shelled out several thousands more to cancel and book another flight.
South Korean budget airline Eastar Jet is a popular choice among price sensitive travelers in Taiwan. Recently, it slashed two regular flights between Taipei and Busan.
According to the notice, up until the last week of March next year, all returning flights on Wednesdays and all departing flights on Thursdays will be cancelled, save for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. That said, one traveler still had their flight on a Friday canceled by the third-party booking website.

Flight canceled then restored
In order not to delay our trip, we booked another flight. It’s too soon, so we didn’t have many options left. So we booked tickets for the day before, on Thursday with another airline company. We’ve arranged for time off at work already, and now we have to take another day off. Later Eastar Jet confirmed that our flight wasn’t cancelled.
Ms. Chen said she was notified on Monday by Trip.com of the cancellation, and that she’d spent at least NT$5,000 more to get new tickets, only to have Eastar Jet say the flight was still on. She said it felt like being taken for a ride on April Fool’s Day.

When it comes to budget airlines, their flights are more tightly scheduled, leaving them with less room for contingency. Therefore, when their aircraft requires maintenance or repair works, they may not be able to offer alternatives. If it’s the travel agency’s error that resulted in the cancelation, that makes it a case of consumer dispute, which would call for negotiation with the travel agency.

My family back home is waiting for me to join the family reunion, and so seeing news of an abrupt cancellation makes me really worried about whether there will be too many travelers, leading to errors, and whether my flight would be cancelled.
According to Eastar Jet, passengers on three of their fights who booked tickets with Trip.com were affected. In response, Trip.com said a system error made the cancelation notifications go out, which they’ve since corrected. The company also said it will compensate those affected.

韓國廉航易斯達航空，傳出明年三月底前，航班將大幅縮減。但有不少透過第三方平台訂機票的旅客卻反應，自己明明不在公告的砍班範圍，卻也收到取消通知。有旅客禮拜五就要飛了，急著去重買，沒想到隔天卻被通知，是誤會，班機根本沒停飛，直呼這是愚人節嗎？
韓國廉航易斯達航空，在台灣擁有松機、桃機兩航點，是不少小資族的首選，但現在卻傳出，台北-釜山航線定期航線，面臨大規模砍班。
易斯達貼出公告，3月底前，週三飛回、週四飛出的航班，除了跨年、過年，通通取消！不過有民眾發現，自己訂的，明明是周五班機。卻也收到，第三方平台寄來的取消信。

“為了不要延誤後續的行程，我們就趕快改訂機票，時間太近，所以我們可以剩下的選擇也不多，我們就訂了前一天，週四的其他航空的航班，大家的假其實是已經請好了，然後額外又要臨時多請一天，但是後來經跟易斯達航空確認，他們並沒有取消該段航班”
旅客氣炸，禮拜五飛，禮拜一卻收到Trip通知航班取消。陳小姐因此多花了至少5千塊錢處理，結果隔天一早，卻又得知原航班會照常起飛，直呼現在是愚人節嗎？

“低成本航空，因為航班安排的比較密集，比較少備用的時段的額度，所以飛機當需要保養或檢修的時候，就會出現調度上的問題，如果是因為旅行社的失誤通知，造成的取消，則是屬於消費糾紛，需要個案跟旅行社協調處理”

“因為家裡也有家人在等著我回去團圓，然後現在看到這種臨時取消的新聞，我就會超級擔心，過年期間是不是人多，然後又會出錯，然後又會我的航班又會被取消”
易斯達表示，約有三班次旅客受影響，全都是從trip上預訂。trip則回應，是系統訊息錯置，已全數修正，後續將主動協助旅客補償事宜。
