Taiwan’s Soupy Rice Showdown winners

"Taiwan’s Soupy Rice Showdown" is a culinary competition celebrating creative rice stew dishes made with locally grown rice. It highlights Taiwan’s agricultural pride and culinary innovation, with categories for frozen and fresh meals. Winners are supported to bring their dishes to convenience stores. In the latest edition, over 70 restaurants competed with more than 120 rice stew creations. FTV reporter Stephany Yang met the winners.

Creative rice stew dishes are presented on the table, featuring peeled chili peppers, minced pork with seafood, and even chocolate-flavored rice stew. Contestants used locally produced rice, paired with flavorful sauces.

The winners of the 2nd Taiwan Soupy Rice Showdown have been announced. The competition, themed "Hometown Flavors," was divided into two categories: Frozen and Fresh. For the Frozen category, the winner combined cabbage stew with xilu pork to create a double-layered sauce aroma, highlighting the nostalgic banquet style. Xilu pork is a traditional Taiwanese home-style dish using tender pork belly braised in a rich, savory broth. In the Fresh category, the champion was also inspired by xilu pork, paired with fried Taiwanese tilapia chunks and topped with sakura shrimp and onions for the finishing touch. Both champions chose domestically produced "Taiken No. 2" rice.

Every time you eat xilu pork, it tastes different. I wanted to capture a middle ground flavor that represents the whole essence.

This year’s Taiwan Soupy Rice Showdown competition attracted 71 restaurants across Taiwan, with 123 rice stew dishes.

We expect the champion rice stews to hit the market next March, available through major channels. Sales are projected at about 350,000 portions, using roughly 33 tons of traceable rice, which will help boost consumption.

The agency will assist both winners in developing frozen meal packs and chilled microwave-ready dishes, making them available in convenience stores nationwide.

第二屆台灣燴飯王揭曉!本屆競賽以「家鄉好味」為主題,吸引全臺71家餐飲業者、123道燴飯料理參賽。「冷凍組」與「鮮食組」兩類別競爭激烈!今天終於冠軍出爐,好巧,兩組冠軍都來自花蓮,燴飯也都融入宜蘭特色菜餚"西魯肉"元素。

一道一道創意燴飯料理,有剝皮辣椒、瓜仔肉海鮮,甚至巧克力口味燴飯。參賽者運用國產米品,搭配燴醬。

競賽以「家鄉好味」為主題,分為「冷凍組」與「鮮食組」兩組評選。第二屆台灣燴飯王揭曉!冷凍組"白菜肉絲燴飯",用白菜滷跟西魯肉製造雙重醬香,強調古早味辦桌風情。鮮食組,同樣以西魯肉為靈感,搭配炸台灣鯛魚塊,最後撒上櫻花蝦與洋蔥畫龍點睛。

第二屆台灣燴飯王競賽,總共吸引全臺71家餐飲業者、123道燴飯料理參賽,各家端出招牌燴醬應戰。

“我們預計明年的3月,(冠軍燴飯)可以上市到我們各大通路,預計我們這個銷路,大概可以有35萬份的份量,可以大概(使用)有33噸的產銷履歷的米,可以促進我們的消費”

農糧署將協助兩組冠軍,做成冷凍調理包與冷藏微波料理,讓民眾網購、超商就能買到享用!
