There’s nothing better than staying cozy indoors when it’s freezing outside, but have you ever wondered how farm animals stay warm in the winter? In the coastal area of Yunlin, farmers have installed automated heating for their livestock. After all, they can’t really withstand the cold very well, especially if they’re young. Let’s take a look at how farmer care for their piglets and chicks.

The piglets only weaned yesterday. They only left their mother yesterday, so they must be kept warm, so we really need to keep them very warm.
Piglets don’t handle the cold very well. Whenever temperatures are about to drop, farmers must patrol their enclosures thoroughly and take precautions.

Starting on the first day after hatching, I’d set the temperature at around 35 degrees, and monitor it daily so it’s appropriate for their age. The temperature must be lowered incrementally. You can’t lower it too much at once.
In their first week or two, temperatures must be kept at around 35 degrees. Thanks to technology and their owner’s foresight, the little ones can stay comfortable even when it’s chilly outside.

連日溫度驟降，雲林沿海的豬隻和小雞養殖場，都嚴陣以待。小雞養殖場內溫度需控制在35度；另外，出生不到30日的小豬仔需要保溫，豬農用燈照射控制溫度，室內也需保留通風，避免衍生疾病。
雲林沿海的養豬圈裡，才剛出生的小豬仔，一隻隻靠在一起，豬農打燈泡照射，控制溫度，豬舍周圍降下帆布防風保暖。

“阻擋一些風，但是不能沒有風，沒有風會窒息。外面這層我們也會用帆布，擋住外面的賊風。”

“小豬昨天剛離開媽媽，昨天剛離開媽媽，牠很需要保暖，所以我們要給牠非常溫暖。”
小豬相當怕冷，所以只要天氣冷，豬圈裡裡外外巡一遍，先提早做好防寒措施。
飼料來了！小雞們狂奔，先離開暖風出口，往飼料區集中，現在吃比取暖重要，還好整座養雞場也採自動化的恆溫柴油暖風機控溫。

“從小雞生下第一天，我會設定溫度35度左右，然後慢慢依牠的日齡去控制，慢慢降溫，不能一下子降太多。”
出生1到2週的小雞不耐寒，廠內溫度要控制在攝氏35度左右。一波波強烈冷氣團接連襲擊而來，好在養殖場溫控設備及飼料都做足準備，冬天裡不怕冷吱吱。
