Accomplished chef reconnects with old mentors through Threads

Recently, many people have been posting on Threads looking for old friends or teachers they’ve lost touch with. The owner of a Spanish restaurant posted a list of his former mentors on Threads, hoping to get back in touch with the chefs who inspired him 20 years ago. With the help of others online, he tracked down and reconnected with one of his most cherished mentors. Thanks to the power of the internet, these two chefs were able to renew their student-teacher bond.

From pan-fried pork chops to barbequed chicken thighs, Rex is an expert chef. Next he adds homemade chorizo sauce, orange zest, a squeeze of lemon, and Spanish paprika.

- We first cook it slowly at a low temperature, then sear it over high heat, so you can see the Maillard reaction forming on the surface.

Rex started working in the restaurant industry at age 16, and now he runs his own Spanish restaurant. He’s always cherished the teachers and mentors who guided him along the way.

All the chefs at Chinese restaurants had really short tempers and spoke really loudly. For me at 16, it was kind of... I had to be really careful and meticulous every day. It was really scary, but they were willing to teach me a lot, which has made my Western cooking more solid than others, with more elements and ideas.

He hopes to get back in touch with his old mentors so he can cook for them and thank them. He put this hope out into the world, posting it on Threads.

There were lots of people willing to help, and one of my old mentors reached out to me. When he contacted me, I was really moved.

With the help of the online community, Rex was able to reconnect with his old mentor and share just how far he’s come. Although working in a restaurant was intense as a 16-year-old, he’s grateful for the teachers who gave him a chance.

近期許多網友透過Threads尋人啟事,尋找失聯許久的老師、朋友,一家西班牙餐廳老闆,在Threads列出,他的恩師名單,許願希望能找到20年前啟發他的師傅、主廚,沒想到貼文一出,立刻引發網友熱烈回響,甚至有網友幫他找到主廚本人,成功讓這段師徒緣分重新延續,讓他感激又感動。

不論是香煎豬排或是火烤雞腿排,老闆REX都細心料理,加上自製「丘拉爾臘腸醬」、撒上柑橘皮粉、擠上檸檬、西班牙煙燻紅椒,堆疊多層次風味。

16歲就踏入餐飲業的REX從學徒,到後來自己創業,成為西班牙餐廳老闆,REX都沒有忘記恩師們,對他的照顧。

“中餐廳裡面每個師傅,都非常的暴躁,講話都很大聲,然後對於16歲的我來說,那其實是一個,每天都是很... ,兢兢業業的在工作,我真的覺得很可怕,可是他們是真的願意教我很多東西,造就我西餐這一方面,比別人多人多了一份,更扎實,有更多元素跟想法”

希望能找回帶領他精進廚藝的主廚,親手做料理,表達對他們的感謝。而REX也把自己的願望,寫在脆上,引發網友熱烈迴響。
