Shouts of excitement echo through the streets. But this isn’t a carnival celebration. It’s a college acceptance party for a young man named Mateo.
Parading through the streets, Mateo excitedly waves Taiwan’s national flag.
The party didn’t just garner extensive coverage from local media. Even Taiwan’s foreign ministry and Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña reshared the post to convey their congratulations. Mateo had just been admitted to the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University.
Jointly established by the two governments in 2018, the university for science and technology teaches a Taiwanese technical and vocational curriculum in the South American country. It’s equivalent to getting into National Taiwan University. But why does every post have the same background music?
The track holds a hidden message. By the legendary Argentine band Los Auténticos Decadentes, the song is titled A Teddy Bear from Taiwan, or Un osito de peluche de Taiwán. It’s a household tune throughout Latin America.

近期我國在拉丁美洲友邦巴拉圭的社群，瘋傳一段影片，一名巴拉圭青年開心揮舞著台灣國旗遊街，連巴拉圭總統貝尼亞也轉發貼文祝賀，原來他考上台灣-巴拉圭合作設立的”台巴科大"，而這間大學堪比巴國第一志願!而且每則轉發貼文，都不約而同選了這一首歌當背景音樂，帶您來了解。
尖叫聲此起彼落，這可不是嘉年華慶祝活動，而是一名巴拉圭青年”Mateo"的升學趴。
遊街時Mateo還興奮揮舞著我國國旗，場面超熱鬧。
