Taiwan’s Gen Z takes on AI Boom as startup leaders gather in Taipei

The AI boom is exploding, and Taiwan wants its next generation of young innovators to ride the wave. The Boba Tech Summit kicked off in Taipei on Wednesday, drawing more than 300 startup founders, investors and tech entrepreneurs from over 15 countries. But while the opportunities are huge, so are the challenges, with AI demand fueling a global scramble for chips, memory and GPUs. Now, Taiwan’s Gen Z entrepreneurs are looking to turn that chaos into their next big opportunity.
The Boba Tech Summit kicked off in Taipei on Wednesday, bringing together more than 300 startup leaders, investors and tech entrepreneurs from more than 15 countries.

Entrepreneurship is AI. Having domain knowledge is very important. That is, your own experience is very important. Without it, AI might give you a solution, but you don’t know if it’s right or wrong. Or you don’t have the ability to judge whether it is. When you do, it’s because you have the experience to do so.
Semiconductor giants are expanding their production capacity, as AI drives demand for chips. But amid memory and component shortages, some systems vendors have had to downgrade their specifications.

It’s unavoidable. Everyone agrees it’s inevitable, which is why we’re desperately buying machines. There’s a shortage of everything: CPUs DRAM, SSDs, GPUs… Systems vendors are putting half as much DRAM in their systems, because it’s too expensive now, and you can’t get it easily. By using half as much DRAM, they can make and sell more systems. What about the performance loss? They compensated for it with flash memory.
From AI startups to the global memory chip shortage, this summit puts Taiwan at the starting point, showcasing the entrepreneurial strength of the country’s Gen Z innovators.

亞洲Z世代國際新創高峰會，今天(9)在台北登場，吸引超過15國、三百位國際創業領袖、亞洲新創業者齊聚，現場除了聚焦AI創新之外，群聯電子創辦人潘健成也說，記憶體供應鏈正面臨嚴重缺貨危機，甚至已有業者被迫將DRAM配置減半來應對。

AI帶動龐大需求，半導體大廠持續擴充產能，也讓記憶體供不應求，甚至有系統商因買不到零組件，被迫調降規格。

“這個你跑不掉了啦，就是因為大家認可，這個是一個必然的，所以一直在買機器嘛，我們也拼命在買機器啊，所以什麼都缺啊，CPU缺、DRAM缺、SSD缺，GPU卡缺，什麼都缺，現在看到DRAM，已經有系統商把DRAM減半了，因為太貴買不到，那為什麼要減半，你減半才有辦法多賣系統嘛，那你減半後效能要靠什麼補，靠Flash啊”
