Bus with smashed-up window stays on road for weeks in Tainan

Would you sit next to a smashed up window on a bus? For most of us, that would be a resolute no. But that didn’t stop a bus in Tainan from traveling all around the city for weeks with a broken window. The situation was captured on video by a commuter, who said he first saw the shattered glass in late August. Let’s hear more.

It’s extremely dangerous. Just think about it contracting in the cold and expanding in the heat. Or if the bus shakes a little bit too much, it could all come crashing down on passengers, and cutting them. It’s so scary. I was sitting further back, but it wouldn’t be safe anyway. I saw the broken window on the bus in Tainan on Aug. 29, before the school year started.

The window broke due to a rock that was kicked up from the ground during weed-cutting work. The window is laminated glass, which forms a spiderweb pattern instead of shattering or scattering into shards. So it does not pose an immediate danger.
The bus company says that, although the glass may look scary, it does not pose an immediate danger to passengers. Still, the bus has been removed from circulation while the window is replaced, which should put passengers at ease.

不敢坐! "公車玻璃碎裂"險傷乘客 民眾:八月底就看到

台南有民眾搭乘黃9公車時，看到車上整片玻璃碎裂，跟著公車沿路搖晃，就怕一個不小心，碎玻璃掉落，割傷人，坐得非常緊張，也盡量遠離，但民眾說其實早在8月底就看到了，不懂為何不趕緊維修。

“我覺得危險性極高，因為如果熱脹冷縮的問題，怕哪一天行駛途中，公車如果晃太大力，突然碎掉，傷到旁邊乘客的話，可能會有濺血的問題，所以就很害怕，因為我坐在後面，我也怕被波及到。我在8/29開學前也看到這個畫面，大台南的公車，也都還沒有處理”

“在行駛途中，遭遇路邊的雜草清除作業噴飛的石頭砸中，才會導致車窗玻璃的碎裂，那目前檢視這個玻璃是膠合玻璃，碎裂的時候就是呈現蜘蛛網狀，不會整片崩落，或者是飛散，造成立即性的危險”
對此，客運公司解釋，碎裂的公車玻璃沒有立即危險，但目前已立刻停止派工，更換玻璃，避免民眾擔憂。畢竟整塊碎玻璃，跟著公車一路搖搖晃晃，就怕不慎掉落，割傷人。
