KMT’s Wang Hung-wei defeats DPP’s Enoch Wu in legislative by-election in Taipei

The KMT’s Wang Hung-wei has won a by-election in Taipei to fill a legislative seat that was vacated by Chiang Wan-an, who ran for Taipei mayor and won. With 60,519 votes, Wang defeated her DPP rival Enoch Wu by 5,780 votes. Voter turnout was relatively low for Taiwan, at 43.35%.

Wang, a Taipei city councilor, thanked her voters for giving her an opportunity. She said the pressure is really on, now that she is following in Chiang’s footsteps. Meanwhile Wu, accompanied by his wife, congratulated Wang and thanked his supporters. He said when he ran for the legislature three years ago, he nearly won, and this time, he missed out again. But he would not be discouraged. Regardless of his role, he would continue to work hard he said.

台北市第三選區週日舉行立委補選,國民黨王鴻薇以60519票勝選,跟對手吳怡農差5780票。這次投票率僅43.35%。

王鴻薇說,謝謝選民給她機會,也坦言順利接棒蔣萬安後,才是壓力開始。吳怡農則在太太陪同下,感謝支持者、也恭喜王鴻薇,他說三年前差一點,這次也差點,但他不會氣餒,無論何種身分,都會繼續努力。
