President honors rescuers and dogs that took part in operations in Turkey

2023-02-23

President Tsai Ing-wen on Thursday received the search and rescue personnel who recently returned from Turkey at the Presidential Office. Tsai conferred medals of honor upon them, thanking them for putting Taiwan on the world map. And it wasn’t just humans at the ceremony; there were also five very good doggos.

President Tsai herself walked in with her favorite pup, Lele, who previously worked as a rescue dog. It was a great opportunity to meet its colleagues. The awardees included Hugo, who was very excited at the occasion, making the medal awarding process trickier than expected. Sato was also there, and had to get a nudge or two from the president to look properly at the camera. Melody was the boldest of the lot, daring even to approach Tsai for a wet kiss.
