CEO of AMD Lisa Su returned to her birthplace of Tainan on Friday, to attend the 2024 Southern Semiconductor Forum. Joined by Acer Chair Jason Chen, she participated in a moderated dialogue about AI. Su opened her remarks with a warm greeting in Chinese. She explained that she wasn’t fluent in the language, as she had moved to the U.S. when she was 3.
Lisa Su
AMD CEO
I was born in Tainan, actually, and I went to the United States when I was 3. You can see that my English is perfect and my Chinese is terrible. ...I am so excited to be back in Tainan after I think 10 years, I have not been in Tainan. But uh, this is such a special year for Tainan’s 400th anniversary. This has been an incredible week for Taiwan at Computex because as you said, Terry, everyone is talking about AI.
A long line of people showed up bright and early to attend the forum. Not a few in the crowd were university and high school students. During the dialogue, Su shared her personal experiences, and spoke about Taiwan’s important role in the global chip industry. Outside the venue, she took questions from students, and encouraged them to be bold and brave in pursuing their dreams.
