Reservoirs in central and southern Taiwan are replenishing thanks to plum rains

2024-06-17

The rainy season that lasts from May to June, known locally as the plum rains, may have been annoying for most people, but for Taiwan’s southern reservoirs it’s been a boon. Water capacity in the Zengwen Reservoir is now over 50%, while the Nanhua Reservoir is faring even better, at 90%.

The Lantan Lake fountain displays in central Taiwan are the largest of their kind in the nation. Previously, the Chiayi City Government had suspended operations there at the end of April as the water levels of both Lantan Lake and neighboring Renyitan Dam were critically low. Now that Taiwan’s water supply is stabilizing, starting June 21, the fountains will once again enchant the public.
