‘Clueless’ star Alicia Silverstone is being criticized online for her ignorance picking and eating a fruit from the side of the road in London. The fruit, which she had thought was a tomato, turned out to be a toxic Jerusalem cherry, known as "coral cherry" in Taiwan. Doctors have said that the plant, which is commonly used as an ornamental plant, contains the neurotoxin solanine. Consuming it can cause symptoms such as gastrointestinal distress and vomiting, and in severe cases, respiratory failure.

Hollywood actress Alicia Silverstone was passing by a private garden in London when she noticed a pot of plants covered with small green, orange, and red fruits. She casually picked an orange one, mistaking it for a tomato, and put it directly into her mouth.

Alicia uploaded a video of the incident to TikTok, which garnered over 5 million views in just two days and sparked widespread discussion. The plant, scientifically known as Solanum pseudocapsicum or "coral cherry," can be harmful if ingested.

Solanum pseudocapsicum, also known as "coral cherry," is quite common in Taiwan and is found in many low-elevation areas. It is a fairly widespread plant due to its long flowering period and attractive fruits, and is often used as an ornamental plant."

Doctors warn that all parts of the coral cherry plant are toxic and should not be consumed. If ingestion occurs and causes discomfort, it is essential to seek medical attention immediately.

"玉珊胡"又稱"珊瑚櫻"，它其實在我們台灣，分布在很多低海拔地區都有，它其實算是一個蠻普遍的植物，因為它的花期還蠻長的，而且它的果實也是蠻好看的，大概都有人拿來觀賞的植物使用。”

醫師示警，珊瑚櫻全株都有毒，不可亂吃，萬一真的誤食造成身體不適，務必盡速就醫。

Stunning orange daylilies bloom in Hualien

The end of summer is orange daylily season in Hualien, and visitors from all over Taiwan come to see the flowers bloom. However this year, these orange daylilies are struggling in some locations. In Fuli’s Liushishi Mountain, the flowers are sparse due to a drought earlier in the year. In contrast, the fields at Chike Mountain in Yuli are packed with golden blooms.

A sea of orange daylilies stretches as far as the eye can see, contrasting with the deep blue sky. This is Chike Mountain in Yuli, a place so beautiful that visitors don’t want to leave.

I’ve been in Chike Mountain for more than a month. I’ve seen it go from no flowers to a sea of flowers. The air here is really fresh.

But over at Liushishi Mountain in Fuli, which is also famed for its orange daylilies, the fields remain mostly green. Though there are a few blooms here and there, travelers who have visited both say the difference is stark.

Let’s compare the two sites. The fields in Chike and Liushishi look very different. But why? They are both in Hualien and both sowed with the same orange daylilies, yet one is in full bloom and the other is flowerless.

It turns out the difference is due to a drought that struck Fuli in March and April this year, which has prevented the flowers from blooming.

Right now, the flower fields are at their most beautiful. Our occupancy figures for September are on the low side, so we hope more tourists from all over will come to the mountains more often.

Tourist numbers have plummeted in Hualien due to the impact of natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. But local hostel operators say now is the perfect season to view the flowers during the day and the stars at night. They say Hualien is a great choice to enjoy the last few days of the summer holidays.

A photo of an air conditioning technician has gone viral, due to the man’s impressive physique. Internet users are calling him “strong and handsome,” and they want his contact info, claiming that their air conditioners are broken, too. Let’s meet the man at the center of it all, 24-year-old Lee Yen-po.

This photo was shared on social media, with the caption: “Are all AC technicians so buff these days? My mother kept trying to chat him up.” The post quickly went viral, with one internet user exclaiming: “My air conditioner is broken, too!”

This photograph has set the internet abuzz, with internet users saying, “Call that technician because my air conditioner is broken, too.” Today we’ve tracked down the man himself.

Electric drill in hand, 24-year-old Lee Yen-po gets to work. He entered the AC installation trade at a tender age, learning from his brother-in-law. Although he spends most of his time on his job, he also finds time for weight training.

I train about five times a week, training my whole body. I think that weight training is extremely helpful if you’re in the AC service industry, because it reduces the likelihood of getting injured. You learn how to exert force with your muscles. A window AC unit can weigh 90-something kilograms and you’ve got to carry it up stairs.

Hauling heavy weight is all in a day’s work. He can install one AC unit in a matter of minutes.

He’s been doing this for three years now. When he first started, he didn’t even know how to use pliers or an electric screwdriver. But in just three short months, he mastered all of these tools.

His brother-in-law heaps praise on his work ethic. Lee is a bit bashful in front of our camera, but he doesn’t hold back on social media, where he shares photos of his physique. Even in a work shirt, he can’t hide his big muscles. Sometimes that’s more a curse than a blessing.

Sometimes when I’m working, older women will notice. They’ll think my physique is pretty good and want to touch my muscles, but I’m a bit shy about that.

Thanks to his muscles, Lee is now an online sensation. Once word gets out that he’s hardworking, too, his fan base should only get bigger.
