Two more medals for Team Taiwan at the Paris Paralympics! Both for table tennis: a silver from Cheng Ming-chih in men’s singles and a bronze from Tien Shiau-wen in women’s singles. For both of them, it’s the second Paralympics in a row bringing home a medal.

After an intense five-set face-off with Norway’s two-time champion Tommy Urhaug, Taiwan’s para table tennis player Cheng Ming-chih bagged silver in the class 5 men’s singles event.

Flags raised for the medalists. This is the third time that 45-year-old Cheng is competing at the Paralympics, and his first personal victory. On the sidelines, the president congratulated him on the phone.

Well of course, it’s my first singles medal. The previous two games I’d only made it to the quarterfinals and didn’t manage to win a medal, so it feels like I’ve reached my goal this time.

Meanwhile, Tian Shiau-wen faced off Poland’s Natalia Partyka in the women’s singles class 10 semifinals.

After five intense sets, Tian was ultimately defeated in the final set 8-11, missing out on the final, but bagging her second Paralympic bronze in women’s singles.

I think the biggest win was that I’ve really evolved since the previous games. Skills, mindset, resilience… I’ve really glowed up.

Thanks to the table tennis wins, Team Taiwan now has two silvers and two bronzes, ranking 56th overall.
