Spectacular seas of clouds appear on Nantou mountains

In the fall and winter, a stunning natural phenomenon known as the sea of clouds occurs at Dalun Mountain in Nantou. The beautiful sight was recently captured by a videographer, using a time-lapse technique and aerial photography. The footage makes the clouds look like ocean waves. Let’s hear from the videographer.

Dalun Mountain in Nantou’s Lugu Distrcit has been getting swept by seasonal northeasterly winds. The sea of clouds that results from that is beautiful, especially when shot from up in the sky. The clouds flow and cascade over each other, it’s an amazing sight to behold.
A similar phenomenon was also spotted at Sun Moon Lake, with clouds descending from Jiulongkou onto the water’s surface to create a dream-like scenery. The local weather station says the phenomenon is caused by strong northeasterly winds and radiative cooling, which make the moist night air cool down to its dew point, forming fog. From a bird’s eye view, it looks like a thick blanket of snow on the ground. Over at Ren’ai Tonwship, the low altitude of Wushe霧社 Reservoir allows thick white clouds to fill into the valley, resembling a massive serving of cotton candy atop the mountains.

來看看南投地區秋冬限定的雲海美景。最近在鹿谷的大崙山，有攝影玩家透過空拍攝影，捕捉美麗鏡頭，奔騰的雲瀑海浪，呈現千軍萬馬的氣勢。

“南投縣鹿谷鄉的大崙山，最近因為東北季風的來臨，那我們現在的雲海相當相當漂亮，尤其用空拍機上去拍的時候，雲層的流速，構成一個流瀑相當相當壯觀以及美麗。”
美麗的畫面，也出現在南投日月潭，雲瀑從九龍口傾洩而下，雲海覆蓋在日月潭湖面，如夢似幻，氣象站表示，因為東北季風增強，加上輻射冷卻效應，夜間水氣凝結成雲霧，從高空就能吸引雲海美景。而在仁愛鄉的霧社水庫，因為地勢較低，蓄積水氣凝結成雲霧，也出現絕美大景，白色雲海，就像棉花糖，覆蓋在水庫上方。
