
In a recent interview with an American magazine “Foreign Affairs”, outgoing US Secretary of State Antony Blinken touted the Biden administration’s diplomatic achievements. Blinken said that the US had successfully made Europe more aware of China’s military threats, and of the global repercussions of a potential attack on Taiwan. Let’s hear from him.

You’ve got 50% of commercial container traffic going through the Taiwan Strait every day. Seventy percent of the microchips made on Taiwan, you would have a crisis for the global economy if there were to be a crisis over Taiwan. The Chinese like to say “Taiwan is no one else’s business, it’s our business.” The world has said “Actually, no, it is our business.”
Blinken said that, as democracies around the world band together, countries such as China, Russia, Iran and North Korea area forming alliances to cover their weaknesses. An alliance which he says China is trying to assume a leadership role in.

美國國務卿布林肯即將卸任,最近他接受美國雜誌"外交事務"訪問,他提到,美國成功讓歐洲更注意到中國軍事威脅行動,可能對台灣帶來的危機,而台灣正是全球經濟至關重要的一環。

“你有50%商業貨運交通,每天都通過台灣,高達70%微晶片在台灣生產,如果台灣有危機,那就會是全球經濟的危機。中國總喜歡說台灣不是別人的事,是我們的事(是中國內政),但全球對此要說的是,其實並不是,這是我們的事。”
布林肯也表示,面對全球許多民主國家立場一致,中國、俄羅斯、伊朗和北韓才愈來愈走向彼此結盟,就是因為這些國家考量自身利益與弱點,而形成這樣的發展,還指出中國渴望領導地位。
