Strong northeasterlies bring chance of snow to tall mountains

Strong northeasterlies bring chance of snow to tall mountains

2025-01-02

Northern and Eastern Taiwan are set to get chilly weather on Friday, as northeasterly winds blow moisture and cool air over. Though temps will bounce back over the weekend, a cold air mass will take over next week. From Monday to Friday, mountainous areas in the north, and valley areas may see lows below 10 degrees.

On Thursday morning, Yushan was pelted with a mix of rain and graupel, also known as snow pellets. The strong northeasterlies and high atmospheric pressure could bring snow levels to 3,500m in the northern half of the island. So if you’re planning on heading up a mountain to catch a winter wonderland, make sure to be well equipped for icy terrain and of course, wrap up warm.
