On Thursday morning, Premier Cho Jung-tai submitted a request for the legislature to reconsider the amendments to the Constitutional Court procedures, citing the need to maintain constitutional order. Now, lawmakers must revote within 15 calendar days. Let’s hear more.
Cho Jung-tai
Premier
The legislature overrode the judiciary with an unreasonable threshold to cause real, substantive impact on the operations of the Constitutional Court. This violates the duty of fidelity to the Constitution by the justices of the Judicial Yuan, and severely hinders the right of the people and institutions to seek remedy or to solve constitutional disputes, which undermines the constitutional order of the country.
Lin Ming-hsin
Minister without portfolio
The revote request must be filed within 10 days. So even if it’s filed the day before the Spring Festival, it’s still within the 10 days. Will the gates to the Legislative Yuan be closed with not a single person inside? But if the mailroom is still working, then putting it up at the door should still count.
A request to revote must be filed within 10 calendar days by the Executive Yuan upon receiving a legislative bill for approval, and the amendments to the constitutional court procedures was received nine days ago, on Dec. 24. Therefore, Lin was probably referring to the other two bills on government budgets and recalling of elected officials, both of which are yet to be sent through.
