Charming Changhua temple puts up 3,300 painted lanterns

Some people like going all-out with festive decorations for the Lunar New Year. That’s the case for the workers at Yi’an Temple in Changhua, where thousands of hand painted paper lanterns have been put up as decorations. Ensuring that the 3,300 lanterns don’t fly away in the strong coastal winds is quite tricky. Fortunately, a team of volunteers has made sure they are all securely fastened.
3,300 hand-painted paper lanterns have filled the temple plaza with a dash of color at Changhua’s Yi’an Temple.

Our sea of lanterns is about 200m long. There’s about 3,300 lanterns.
The temple in Xianxi known for it amazing lantern displays and proximity to the coast. This year’s lanterns were painted at schools and by neighbors.

We 17 schools signed up, including elementary, middle, high and vocational schools. Five communities and groups also signed up to paint lanterns.
The temple is less than 1 km from the shore, and often experiences gale-force winds. So the lanterns have to be secured properly to withstand strong gusts. A team of some 50 volunteers also sprayed oil on them to make them water resistant.

Our volunteers sprayed the lanterns with tung oil. When we put up the lanterns, we fasten them with plastic zip ties at the top, bottom and on both sides. There’s also an attachment at the bottom to prevent the lantern from swinging too hard and getting ruined.
The lanterns will be lit up every evening from 5 to 10 until Feb. 12, a perfect spot to get feeling festive.

彰化線西義安宮掛3300個燈籠 可抗10級風力

彰化線西鄉的義安宮，離海邊只有1公里，2023年，首度掛上1千3百個燈籠，因為燈籠有抗風設計，通過東北季風10級風力的考驗，打響「海線第一排燈籠海」名號，吸引很多民眾來拍照打卡，今年邁入第三年，廟方再加碼、掛出3300顆燈籠海，要一直掛到元宵節。
來到彰化義安宮， 3300個彩繪燈籠，五彩繽紛，點亮廟前廣場。

“我們今年的燈海，大概全長大概在200公尺左右，大概3300顆左右”
線西鄉的義安宮，有「海線第一排、全國最強的燈籠海」之稱。今年再度結合各級學校和社區，一起合作，手繪燈籠。

“我們今年有17所中小學、高中職，來報名我們彩繪燈籠的活動，還有五個社區，跟團體來報名”
義安宮距離海邊不到一公里，經常有10級的東北季風，為了抵抗強風，燈籠都特別訂作，找了將近50位志工，幫忙刷上防水漆，通過風雨測試。

“我們燈籠，出動的志工會噴上桐油，我們在固定燈籠的時候，我們會用這種塑膠束帶，我們上下、兩側會固定，還有一個，下部的固定，讓燈籠可以保持，它不會被風嚴重吹襲而破壞”
姚志憲指出，義安宮將持續點燈到2月12日元宵節，點燈為每晚五點到晚上十點，歡迎大家來參觀。
