Four years ago, Taiwan lifted a ban on imports of pork containing ractopamine, an animal feed additive used to promote leanness. And the substance has now been detected for the first time in a shipment of frozen pork trotters imported from Australia. The shipment, totaling 23 tons was tested in late April, and showed trace amounts of ractopamine. Amid concerns from consumers, the Food and Drug Administration held a presser on Monday to clarify that the shipment complied with all current standards.

I can understand that there could be some concerns, but when it comes to pork with ractopamine, you have to trust the data obtained from the risk assessments conducted by the director-general and the standards set by international bodies such as CODEX. All these are based on scientific evidence. Since 2021, tests have been conducted on more than 25,000 pork imports. So far, ractopamine was only detected in this shipment of trotters. The levels were within the legal threshold. The substance did not exceed permitted levels.
The FDA has also announced the measures it will take if any future shipments are found to contain non-compliant levels of ractopamine. Border sampling inspections will increase to between 20% and 50% to ensure strict safeguards on food safety.

台灣開放萊豬進口4年多來，四月底邊境抽查一批23公噸的澳洲冷凍豬腳，首度驗出微量的萊克多巴胺，部分消費者憂心忡忡，食藥署召開記者會，強調這批豬肉沒有不合格。

“我可以體會國人會有一些些擔心的，但是這些(萊豬)，你要相信署長在做風險評估的過程中得到的數據，以及全世界CODEX(食品法典委員會)，訂定出來的數據，其實它是有所本的。(2021年以來)豬肉報驗總共有2萬5千多件，其中我們這次在豬腳查出來有一件，它是符合標準的，就沒有特別超標不合格的部分。”
首批澳洲萊豬叩關，未來如果有不合格的項次，食藥署將提高邊境抽批檢驗，達到20到50%，為消費者的食品安全，層層把關。
