14-year-old Sanxia car crash victim wakes up from coma

2025-05-22

And here’s an update on the victims of Monday’s car crash in Sanxia. There’s good news on some of the victims. For instance, a 12-year-old boy surnamed Lee no longer needs a breathing tube and is expected to be transferred to a regular ward on Friday. There’s also a 14-year-old girl surnamed Liu, who has just woken up from a coma, and is able to talk and interact with others. The first things she said was that she wanted to go to school.

Another student that had been walking in a group of three when the car crashed onto them continues in a stable condition, attached to a life-support system. She was the only one out of the three to be resuscitated after getting hit by the car. Tucheng’s Chang Gung Memorial Hospital says it holds an inter-disciplinary meeting every day to ensure the best treatment is given to her, adding that the next few days will be of critical importance.
