Nine hikers doing river tracing in Pingtung had to be rescued on Sunday afternoon, after a heavy downpour left them stranded across the river in Huixuan Valley. The water level had surged quickly, trapping them with no way back. Fortunately, they all escaped unscathed from the incident. Let’s hear more.

We are investigating their route to determine whether they broke regulations on mountain activities. If so, they will be dealt a fine.
The rescuers set up a series of ropes to bring each of the hikers back one by one. The whole operation took more than two hours. Reports say the area is easily accessible to visitors, who do not need to apply for an entry permit and need only register at the Sande checkpoint with an ID. With the recent sudden changes in weather, nature lovers are reminded to exercise extra caution when going out, especially when out in the mountains.
