Thank you to the president and premier for allocating NT$200 million every year starting this year so that the council can focus on taking care of Indigenous athletes, such as offering off-site training and supporting their living expenses.
Indigenous athletes have achieved great results internationally, including Olympic medalists Kuo Hsing-chun, a weightlifter of Amis descent, and Chen Nien-chin, a boxer of Amis and Bunun descent. About half the members of the baseball team that won the Premier12 championship are Indigenous. These athletes have increased Taiwan’s visibility through their impressive achievements, connecting with the international community.

For example, in the past we’ve provided support by helping museums curate exhibits and by helping organize their museums. They’ve also come to Taiwan and visited our Indigenous villages. We share the same language roots with Austronesian countries.
Indigenous peoples are actively engaging in international exchanges, increasing Taiwan’s visibility and spreading Indigenous cultures through sporting competitions and diplomacy.
