
A firefighter serving in Miaoli is Taiwan’s newest table tennis star! At the ongoing 2025 World Police and Fire Games, held in the US in Birmingham, Alabama, Huang Ya-hui bagged two golds and one silver, for women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles, respectively.
Currently aged 42, Huang has served as a firefighter for 17 years. Over her career, she’s obtained several certifications, including that as a professional emergency medical technician and for unmanned aerial vehicle operations. Off-duty, she enjoys playing table tennis, and practice clearly paid off. She’s the second Taiwanese to win medals at the 2025 World Police and Fire Games, after Changhua police officer Lin Shih-ming’s林世明 gold for men’s judo in the 66kg division.
