Flooding in Lukang, Changhua incurs great losses for locals

A strong downpour on Changhua’s Lukang Township on Tuesday morning left the area terribly flooded, even though Typhoon Danas has already passed. The historic Lukang Mazu Temple, the touristy old street and residential buildings all suffered damage. People traveling in the rain were also trapped for hours due to the flooding.

The road turned into a veritable stream. Passers-by make their way across cautiously.
The ancient Lukang Mazu Temple was not spared from the heavy storm. At the courtyard, the legs of the incense burner and offering tables are all submerged.
Although drainage pumps are running at full speed, it’s not enough against the heavy rain. According to the Central Weather Administration, from 9 to 10 in the morning, both Lukang and Fuxing townships in Changhua had an hourly precipitation rate of over 100mm.

It’s mainly because of the heavy rains in the morning. The sudden downpour from the thunderstorm could not be drained, that’s why it’s so flooded.
After the flooding subsides somewhat, shop owners along the Lukang Old Street and locals begin to clean up. A shop owner says the flooding this time is even more severe than during Typhoon Gaemi last summer. He also says that he’s prepared upfront, but it still wasn’t enough this time round.

We’re prepared for the worst. So everything’s moved up. But there are still things you can’t prepare for. I didn’t expect the flood level to be so high, only around here. But this time both drawers were flooded.
Meanwhile, a woman was only running errands at the market and preparing to go to the hospital, but got trapped in the flood. She only escaped after someone carried her out of the flooded area on his back.

I couldn’t walk. There was so much water. It’s terrible.
Other patients heading to Lukang Christian Hospital weren’t so lucky. Because of the flood, cars were trapped for over six hours nearby. Residents at a building across the hospital also suffered serious losses.
The water went straight into the basement via the slope at the entrance. All the cars parked inside were flooded over. By the time residents arrived from their workplace, it’s already too late.

When I got back I saw that it’s completely flooded. There’s no saving anything now.

We have three scooters and a car parked down there. Only looking at the three scooters, they’re worth almost NT$300,000. I cried as soon as I got back, but it won’t help, because the flood is already so high.

颱風前腳才剛剛離開，不過，雨彈狂襲彰化，尤其鹿港成為淹水重災區，鹿港老街商圈，和天后宮都出現嚴重淹水，造成民眾汽機車浸水拋錨，天后宮的天公爐和供桌也都泡在大水裡，當地攤商說，知道鹿港老街常常淹水，也做了防淹準備，但還是不敵大雨狂下，從沒遇過如此慘況，相當無奈。

馬路變成河流，人車通行小心翼翼。
暴雨狂炸彰化鹿港，受災的還有古蹟天后宮，水淹及膝，民眾牽車逃難，天后宮裡的天公爐和供桌，全都泡在大水裡。
抽水設備努力運作，也是不敵強降雨帶來的災情。根據氣象署資料，上午九點到十點，鹿港鎮和福興鄉的時雨量雙雙超過100毫米。

“最主要的是早上部分是強降雨，所以突然間大雨雷雨，宣洩不及，所以造成這樣的淹水現象。”
積水漸退，老街攤商和民眾忙著清理家園，業者說，先前凱米颱風釀災，也沒這麼嚴重，做了防淹準備，但還是難敵雨彈狂襲。

“都會有心理準備啦，所以本來東西都有架高了，但是變成說有些沒辦法預防。這次沒想到會淹那麼高，所以大概到這裡而已，這次兩個抽屜都淹到了。”
還有民眾只是買個菜、到醫院看病，沒想到大雨一來，鹿港淹成河，讓她瞬間受困，好在有年輕人背她，幫忙脫困。

“不能走路了，那個水為什麼會那麼多?好慘喔。”
其他到鹿港基督教醫院就醫的民眾可就沒那麼幸運，因為周邊大積水，車子出不去，一等就是超過6個小時。而醫院對面的大樓，住戶更是欲哭無淚。
通往地下室的斜坡，變成滑水道，街道積水直接灌進地下室，停放的車輛遭到滅頂，等到車主們從公司趕回家，早已來不及。

“回來的時候看到，就都淹滿了，根本就沒辦法救啊。”

“我們三台機車跟一台汽車在下面，機車大概三台算起來，也要接近快30萬吧。回來的第一個當下，哭也沒有用，因為水都滿成這樣子。”
突如其來的大雨，讓不少居民交通工具慘泡水，損失慘重。
