Traditional soda stand in Chiayi offers diverse, refreshing flavors

These days, most soda comes in bottles and cans. But one family-run soda stand in Chiayi still makes it the traditional way. Now managed by the third generation, they mix custom sodas on the spot. Many people from other cities and counties come to Chiayi just to try it, and many locals have enjoyed it since childhood.
Soda water rushes directly out of the tap, filling the cup. The server adds ice and a special syrup, completing this cup of sweet, traditional soda.

This traditional soda stand in Chiayi makes sparkling water fresh using carbon dioxide canisters, then adds plenty of ice, and tops it off with syrups of various flavors. Differing from canned and bottled soda, customers can pick the syrup flavor and enjoy a soda made especially for them. Not only do people come from outside Chiayi especially to try it, but many locals have enjoyed it since they were young.

My father and grandfather started this in Chiayi, I’m the third generation. There were over 60 stands like this before, and now there’s only one.
As the only remaining soda stand in Chiayi, its sign and stall recall Taiwan’s yesteryears. Chen’s family has been running the stand for over 60 years, passing the business down to the third generation.

My father always said not to give up the customers, to let everyone have this memory, a good memory. I grew up with this stand, too.
Upholding traditional hand-made soda culture, the third generation runs this stand as their parents did before them. Their drinks offer a refreshing respite in the hot summer, but more than that, they are full of childhood memories.

想喝汽水，一般想到的都是打開即飲的罐裝汽水。帶您來到嘉義傳承三代的古早味汽水攤，想喝什麼口味的汽水都是現點現調。不只有人從外縣市慕名而來，也有老顧客從小喝到大。
打開龍頭，一股清涼直沖杯底。滿滿一杯氣泡水再加上糖漿，就是一杯香甜可口的古早味汽水。

“這是現做的，夏天喝起來特別涼爽”
滿滿清涼冰塊，加上二氧化碳鋼瓶打出來的氣泡水，想喝什麼口味現點現調。不同於市面上打開即飲的罐裝汽水，手工製作的多口味汽水，不只有人從外縣市慕名而來，也有老顧客從小喝到大，每次經過都要來上一杯。

“小時候就在買了，阿伯在這邊的時候，就開始有買了”

“嘉義地區從我爸爸跟阿公開始做，現在第三代了，做到現在本來60幾攤，剩下1攤”
嘉義碩果僅存的汽水攤，從招牌和攤車都能看出滿滿懷舊的痕跡。陳老闆家中從祖父一輩就開始販售手工汽水，傳承三代，至今已經超過一甲子。

不想讓古早味汽水的老滋味從此消失，第三代老闆堅守汽水攤，賣的不只是清涼消暑的汽水，更是小時候滿滿的回憶。
