Crested honey buzzard takes brief ride on Taiwan Railway

2025-08-14

A fare-evading passenger caught quite a stir in a train in Northern Taiwan. It was not a human, however, but an eagle-like bird. A crested honey buzzard somehow found its way inside the carriage, where it got so overwhelmed with the crowds that it started getting combative. Passengers rushed to call for help in dealing with the bird. Let’s hear more.

Keelung animal protection official
Station staff assisted in getting the buzzard in a bag and releasing it to the wild at the train platform. The bird was fine and flew away instantly. It happens sometimes, that buzzards get inside the trains or inside people’s homes.

Wild Bird Society of Keelung
Judging from the video, the incident was handled correctly. It may have been a young bird still learning to fly that got tired. Maybe it saw some food and was chasing after it, or the catch was too heavy. Maybe it was about to take off again.

Fortunately, the bird flew off unharmed, and nobody was attacked. It was released at Xizhi Station after a short but eventful train ride.
