A bizarre essay prompt on a mock university entrance exam has left students in Northern Taiwan confused and disturbed. They were asked to write an essay from the point of view of a child conceived via surrogacy, with the title "My mom is a surrogate." While current topics and events are often incorporated into exam questions, critics say this topic took matters too far. Let’s hear what some students thought.

It basically implanting the idea that a mother’s womb can be rented out into the minds of students. It’s very misleading, and it’s a form of exploiting and objectifying women. We really wonder what the ultimate purpose was of forcing such a controversial social issue on students.
The mock exam was devised by Hanlin Publishing, which has since issued an apology on Facebook. The publisher said there was inadequate supervision in the process, which may have caused students to feel uncomfortable. It says that in the future, it will enhance its question development process, establish a multilevel review mechanism and better train its writers.

許多大小考試，都會融入時事題，不過昨天才剛結束的，北區模學測擬考作文，以「我的媽媽是代理孕母」為題，要求學生以代理孕母子女的第一視角寫作，遭質疑題目物化女性。

事件延燒一天，負責命題的翰林出版才在臉書坦承審題把關不周，造成考生們在作答時感到困惑或不適，深表歉意，同時也提出強化審題流程、建立多重審題機制與命題師資專業提升，三向檢討措施。
